I started taking prescribed iron supplements (in the form of ferrous gluconate) a week ago. They have 324 mg of iron a pill, and I take one twice a day. The instructions do say not to take them with food, but I've gotten a little nauseated when taking them on an empty stomach (which is funny, cause I never got morning sickness!). The last couple of days, I've had my mid morning pill with a small orange, and my second one before bed. Do you think this is okay, as the vitamin C helps to absorb the iron, or not, as food blocks the absorption?

So confusing!

I would keep taking it as you are. It can make people feel nauseated and it's better that you are not feeling that way so you can eat a balanced diet for baby. Also, the orange is a great idea. Kiwifruit works wonders too as it will help the constipation people often get with iron and is higher in vitamin c than oranges : )

I take mine before breakfast and last thing at night. X

How long before breakfast? I know they say not to eat for an hour after taking one . . .

I bought iron tablets from tesco, as my iron was only very very slightly low.. so i just needed to maintain it, rather than get it up.. mine are only 14mg though! & they say to take on a full stomach?! I normally dont though, as i take them before bed with a glass of orange juice (my poor teeth!)
