Hi ladies,
Looking for some advice regarding my irregular periods after stopping the pill and ovulation tests etc..
I stopped taking my pill approx March 2014 I had my withdrawal bleed and a period about 20 days later. My next bleed was 16-19th May (2014) then nothing untill 15-18th August! Then 27-30th Sept, 29-31st Oct, then nothing again untill Jan 3rd 2015 . On the 15th Jan I noticed some spotting, dark in colour only when going to the toilet and this happened on and off untill the 27th! (I assume this being 'left over' blood as I hadn't bleed for so long?)
I was going to book to see my nurse but then thought if just be told 'you have to wait for periods to regulate after stopping the pill...but it's been 11 months! Lol

Obviously me and my partner are totally confused and have no clue at all when I am ovulating or even if I am at all!
I have brought some ovulation tests but have no clue when to start using?
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks

hey kariss,

so frustrating! I have had irregular periods my whole life - on and off birth control, which are explained by PCOS. it's a fairly common thing. after being irregular for this many months, I'd say it's worth it for you to ask for an endocrinology workup from your gyno, or have your gyno refer you to a reproductive endocrinology specialist. there are other explanations, too, like thyroid disorders, etc., that might lend to irregular periods, and there are medications that can be prescribed that might help you ovulate on a "normal" schedule. certainly worth looking into for peace of mind! don't dismiss wanting to take care of yourself and taking steps to conceive - it never hurts to ask. good luck!
