So we are interviewing peditricians trying to find a good match. So far the Dr's seem so medicalized its crazy. They look at me like I'm crazy for asking about outpatient care. We are planning a homebirth and looking for someone to do the PKU/newborn screen, Vitimin K ect outpatient. The response I hear is its done in the hospital they do it the second baby is born REALLY? Well what kind of "Intact care" do u recommend ugh debate! Breastfeeding help? They help u in the hospital if you wait till your baby is a few days old to get help they are already dehydrated, jaundice ect all bad ugh No responses I was looking for. Had a recommendation for another Dr with more natural views in a few weeks hope it goes better. Hubby says I am being extreme and these are good Dr's ect Why should I second guess them maybe I should close my eyes say do what ypou want to my babies you know best ugh so dissapointed:growlmad: Any advice similar stories ect?

I asked for recommendations of pediatricians from a lactation consultant that worked part time for the birthing center that I attended. She's been around forever and knows which pediatricians support a more natural approach and which ones are pro-breastfeeding. Once I had my list I was able to interview them and focus more on wait times, office hours etc. I found a lovely pediatrician that supports extended bf, natural birth and delayed vax.

Another place you might look, is see if there are any attachment parenting yahoo groups for your area. Those ladies always have recommendations for pediatricians who are more open minded to home birth.

Good luck. Don't back down on trying to find a good pediatrician. You have to see them so much at first, and then rely on them whenever your child is sick so you really need a good match that you're comfortable with.

Your OH is probably dead right, they are probably brilliant doctors! Just overkill, maybe? I mean, you don't usually ask a brain surgeon for advice when you have a headache, right? I dunno.... round here we just go to our family doc and if needed they refer you to a specialist. The kids have seen a paed once each in their whole lives; a routine well baby check at a few days old. Can't fathom having one they'd see regularly.... it makes my head spin!
