Is 17w5d too early for anatomy scan?

I was originally going to have it at exactly 18 weeks anyway which my midwife said was fine so do you think having it 2 days earlier would make much difference?

Nope, not too early! The exact same thing happened to me - I had my scan scheduled for 18 weeks but the doctor's office asked me to move it up. So I ended up having it done at 17 weeks 3 days and it worked out perfectly! They were able to see and measure everything they needed to, and the gender was very obvious too.

They are usually done between 18 and 21 weeks. They like you to be closest to 20 weeks for best results.

Yay OMG i am so excited i actually get to find out what we are having tomorrow. I'm never going to sleep tonight!

Some places prefer you to be further along but i was having my at 18 weeks anyway and had mine done at 18 weeks with my 1st LO and they measured everything fine, so fingers crossed everything should be fine for them to see 2 days earlier. Surely not alot changes in 2 days growth wise?

I will also add that i was measuring 2 days ahead last time so going off my last scan i should be measuring 18 weeks. I am just going by my Ov date

It depends on your country, doctor, etc. I am from Canada and they required me to be closest to 20 weeks. I was off by 2 days, and everything was fine. Good luck

Thanks. I'm from NZ and they like you to be 18/19 weeks here. I will really be 18 weeks if i go by my previous scan where they said i was measuring 2 days ahead

My next scan is 17 weeks and some days, but my doctor said I wouldn't find out gender, I'd have to come back at 21 weeks maybe I'll get a nice tech? Good luck hun!

I had my scan at 17 weeks, 5 days exactly and we found out the gender (boy!). It may be more clear if it's a boy... don't know if they would have been so sure if it was a girl.

They also measured head size, abdominal size, brain size, kidney size, and the length of the bones so I think it was pretty adequate.

My OB does one at 18 weeks and another at 22 weeks. The only difference she said is that the 22 week one will be able to tell the anatomy of the heart (heart defects and such)

My baby is a girl and it was quite clear at 17w3d - the tech saw the three dots/lines right away, and the doctor confirmed the sex when he came in to take a look later.

They were also able to get a nice look at the heart and we saw each of the ventricles and atria as well as the right and left ventricular outflow tracts. The physician told me everything looked great and that they were able to see what they needed to so another ultrasound wasn't necessary. I guess it depends on the clinic

I had mine at 17 weeks 6 days, found out she was a girl! But she wouldn't get out of the way and the tech couldn't get all the measurements, so we scheduled a second one for 23 weeks! Still a girl!

Had her at 40 weeks 5 days and stillll a little girly.

edit - might i add the tech was VERY certain at the first u/s that she was a girl, her parts were VERY clear and very well developed by than. Other than her lack of getting out of the way, all was clear!

Thanks. I am just worried about them not being able to look at the heart properly but i don't think the heart would change that much in 2 days. I'm pretty sure they should be able to tell the gender nice and clear if bubs co-operates as i could tell i was having a boy at 18 weeks with my son. So fingers crossed everything goes to plan tomorrow and they can see what they need to. I guess if they can't they will send me for a second scan to recheck some things

Mine didn't even try to check the heart or do any measurements. She said they normally don't do it until 18-20 weeks so she just checked for gender & rescheduled me for two weeks.

I am going for an anatomy scan not a gender scan, that's why i asked if it would be too early to do the anatomy one as it is when they look at heart etc

i had a scan at 15w5d and they said girl, and it was definately a girl i am having my anatomy scan in 2 weeks though when ill be 19weeks

I think the only thin they may do hunnie is resquedule u for another one i hy cant see certain things,my SIL had one at 19 weeks exactly and her babys heart dint look right thu resqueduled another one for a week late and the heart had grown and everything looked perfect,that beig said mine was at 19+2 and eveything was seen fine so it just dependsnon the baby,just dont panic if they say they want to rescan as its prob just ecauae baby is still a lil too small xxx
