hi all

just had a chat with my hv as lo has been very unsettled at night and waking lots more. she's teething and has had a cold/sore throat with temp to boot. it's just been going on for a month or so so feel it may be more then just a stage now and may be a bad habit :-(

anyway when I mentioned that lo goes to bed at 6pm she kinda made a face and commented that this is a bit early.....I'm kicking myself even righting this as a swore to myself I'd stop listening to books/drs/hv/others on what I'm doing wrong and trust myself with lo

we have been more on a schedule the last few weeks which goes

6 to 6.30 wake
9 ish nap for 1 1/2 hrs
2ish nap for 45 mins (sometimes 1 1/2 hrs
6pm bed time

her natural wakeful time is 3hr and sometimes I have to stretch her out a bit or she won't make it to bedtime, want another nap then won't go to bed till after 8

when her schedule is more variable she stil woke at the same time in the morning so would only be in bed for 10hrs instead of 12 so thought it best to aim for the earlier bedtime?

what's ur 7month Los schedule and bedtime? is this really unusual?

actually this should say bedtime between 6 and 6.30pm, as tonight's bedtime will be 6.20
she's not the sort of baby who's set on a bedtime regardless of naps, we have to work it for the last nap or she won't be tired enough to sleep
..........again, is this really unusual?

My lo is nearly 7 months and we've just moved bedtime to 6:30/7 from 8pm. She wakes less crying now but unfortunately now seems to be teething again grrr. My friend puts her baby to bed at 6:30 and she's not even 6 months. I wouldn't say it's too early but have you tried a later bedtime?

I think 6pm is totally appropriate. It's a bit early, but why change it if it works? Dr. Marc Weissbluth of "Healty Sleep Habits, Happy Child" is one of the leading experts on sleep and he recommends a bedtime between 6pm and 8pm for most children. He even mentions that some do best with a 5:30pm bedtime!

I think it's fine. My LO is 7 months today and I take him up at 6.30 and he is always asleep before 7.

:)

My LO is 6 and a half months and her natural bedtime is 8pm but I wouldn't push it any later than this and if anything I'd prefer it to be a bit earlier. I think if it works for your family then who's to say it's too early? I hope she's feeling better soon.

My 7 month old is taken upstairs for around 6.15, we then start her bedtime routine, which is bath, bottle & bed, she is usually asleep by 7pm. Im having a rough time with her at minute as she has started waking 2 or 3 times a night for extra feeds, so im shattered! It started after she had a tummy bug followed by a cold 3 weeks ago and has continued since. Shes also been waking during night crying and twittering a lot, she just dosent seem too be able too settle well at all! Shes never realy STTN, maybe 10 times in all, but she did just have 1 feed at either 2 or 4am since she was 12 weeks and now its almost like shes a newbirn again!!! Every 3-4 hours feeding during night! Shes on solids aswell but just not a huge eater. Am hoping this 'phase' will come too an end naturally soon otherwise i may have too think about how i can resolve it! Im hona give her another week or so n see how she goes! Seems too be a few 7 month olds on here going thro similar sleeping problems so dont think we the only ones hun xx

Ashley set his own bedtime of 7pm. If it works for you then stick with it.

My LO had always gone down early! A few times I have put him down for a nap at 4.30 and he starts his nights sleep! Lol! usually he's in bed about 6pm, but anytime between 5-7 and he wakes up at the same time anyway so I just play it by ear and don't watch the clock much!

my lo is almost 8 1/2 months and goes to bed between 6pm and 6.15pm. He's up early but sleeps for 12 hours

ha ha, this is so similar to my lo! again giving her another week as the last 3 nights she woken less......fx our lo's pass thru this phase quickly!!

Yes hun i hope so very soon! I would say i saw a slight improvement last night aswell but nothing like it use too be!! Ohhhh bring me back just one feed per night and i'll never winge about her not STTN again!! Lol!!

My boy is always asleep by 6pm at the latest. He's 8 months.

I hope not mY LO was in bed asleep for 6.20 today! :) his normal bedtime is 7pm - he;s 7 1/2 mths but that's been his bedtime for aout 4 mths and he has set that - i couldn;t keep him up even if i wanted to. Tonight he was tyring to nap at 5.50 and I thought oh just bath him and put him to bed. But he;s not napped well today.

If it works, then stick to it! The hv doesn't know your child, you do! x

My babies go to bed between 6 - 6.30pm and have a very similar routine to op! x

My baby doesn't go to bed till 10pm but he doesn't get up for the day till 10am. (But wakes 2 or 3 times to eat during this time) I think he's just inheriting my bad habits, I stay up till midnight or 1am and then get up between 9 and 10am. I'm not a morning person!!!

This will have to change when I go back to work though, can't believe I used to get up at 630am Seems like the middle of the night now lol

My son goes to bed about 8:30. Sometimes 9.. he wakes up at 7:30.. but 6PM would be early for him, he wouldn't really see his daddy at all, so that's why his schedule is how it is :) I say if it works, stick to it.
