I've been looking at doing a course in gel nails. Its something i would really love to do, and if i could make cash out of it - bonus!

The course i'm looking at is £292.64, so quite a lot of money, but as i said i really want to do it and its a learn from home, take your time course.

Is anyone on here a nail tech? Do you make much per customer? Is it hard to get into? Is it really worth it?

My cousin's cousin (lives in the same city as me, I went to high school with her brother) is an esthetician, she works at a spa and also does it at her house in her basement. She makes almost 100% profit on the services she offers at home as you can get membership to places (here we have CosmoProf) that really discount the supplies needed to offer various services.. and the supplies are paid off within a couple customers. (Supplies, not equipment)

Umm I don't know how much they make in salons but for her doing it at home this meant like $10/manicure, $25 for a mani/pedi.. she also offered massage, make up application (I remember it was $30 bridal, $25 full face and $15 for eyes)... umm waxing.. etc

Yea, somewhere on that website it says something about your costs being £3, and you can charge £30-40 per customer, so huge profit!
But can i go the whole way and start raking those customers in to make the profit or will i flop out and fail miserably lol

Local salons around here charge about £15-20 so unless salons around you are charging £30-40 you wouldn't really get away with charging so much more.

For a full set of Gel nails here in my town it is £35! :o
I was thinking i'd only charge about £20 anyway, its still a lot of profit and its cheaper than a shop so maybe i'd get more customers lol

I get acrylics done by a girl who comes to my house and she charges £25 xx

It used to cost me £17 to get them done in London, then i moved to the middle of knowhere!

It's £30-£35 here!!!

Wow nails cost a lot there; a set of acryllics here is $20, gels $35, and bio gel i $40 or $45 I think ~ and that's in Canadian dollars, not £s!!

They do cost a lot, which is why i do mine myself. Fair enough they are'nt salon standard..yet. But with the right training they could be!

& its not like its something that will just stop happening, there is always going to be people who *have* to have perfect nails

I'm not a nail tech but I can tell you how much the nail-bar on my street charges.

Full Set - £25
Infills - £18
Take Off - £10

The girl I go to seems to work all the hours God sends but she loves it and seems to make enough money :D

I'd only be doin part time, because i'll have the baby to look after, but hoping it should bring in a few extra pennies lol

If I were you Id do a creative intensive course its £550 but its the best,. £45 for full set acrylics £20 every 2-3 weeks for infills your laughing.

I am a trained Creative Nail Tecnician and only last week sold off all my kit as I am concentrating on my Photography and don't have the time to keep it up.

I made £40 a full set and £20 per infill and it done the treat nicely for me when I needed some more money. The course had paid for itself in a few months and the rest was profit. I have a trade card so get the stuff cheaper too and would recomend you do the same.

Go for it if you want to do it hun, people love having someone that can come to them on an evening rather than have to give up some of their weekend, find babysitters etc xxx

i think you should definately go for it hun, i live in a small town so here in a salon it costs £40 for a full set of acryllics (excuse the spelling lol) but i get mine done from a woman who does it in her own house and a full set of acryllics from her is £20 .. £15 for students .. each time i go she removes the old ones and puts on new ones for £20 .. she says its worth it, she makes plenty of profit and cos she can choose her own working hours and how often she works etc .. and she has plenty of customers who always return! :D
