I'm still VERY early in my pregnancy but I've been thinking about names for months now & I can't decide if Carter is a gender neutral name ! What do you think ?

I like it for a boy & for a girl but I want to make sure it's really gender neutral before I mention it to OH.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a first name picked out already no matter what the gender? :haha:

In the UK definitely not, but US names are a bit different so I don't know.

I suppose it is but I don't like it for a girl, it seems too masculine. It's nice for a boy though I think :)

I think it is but in the UK I would generally think Carter for a boy. Love the name for both genders though.

I can see Carter being used towards males or females, so in that sense it is neutral, but I mostly associate it as a last name that would be used as a form of address, rather than a given first name for either gender. but that's just my opinion

Hm, I've only ever heard it on a boy, but lots of "boy" names are now being used on girls and I think it's cute. Like Ryan Reynolds's daughter that he names 'James'.

I'm in the US - I've only heard Carter for boys. But lots of boy names are being used for girls nowadays - so this can work if you like it.

How about:

Carson/Carsyn
Cameron/Camryn
Camden/Camdyn
Campbell

I've only ever heard Carter used for boys, but I think it's quite cute for a little girl as well!

Im a counselor and I did an observation in a kindergarten classroom last week were one the students raised her hand and when called on her name was Carter. I immediately thought I loved that name for a girl!

I have always thought Carter was a boys name. but with names these days boys and girls are being named things that you would consider for the opposite sex so i guess it depends how keen you are on it x
