Well, subject title says it all really. I just get so confused! Am I right in thinking that once ovulation pains have arrived, you have pretty much missed the bus as it were, and that the important time is actually just BEFORE ovulation?

Ta
xx

according to fertilty friend they state my fertile days as the 3 days before ovulation ... so i presume so.... but i'm no expert... hope you get some answers xxx

Thats a good question that I would like the answer to as I get ovulation pains too

I get ov pains too, down one side of abdomen and sometiimes the next day I feel it on my other side too! Strange!

would you say bd'ing every other day should do the trick? xxx

i wondered this as well cos i wonder when my pains start has the egg come out, i think the day before ov pains would be the best day.

My doctor said that the egg can live for awhile after ovulation, I have read somewhere 12-24 hours. Though I have to say I thought we had missed our opportunity this month as we didn't BD the days before ovulation just the day after about 36 hours after ovulation and I just got my BFP so I would say get baby making you still have a chance!! Good luck and lots of baby dust!

Hi Claire99991, why you feeling sad today? :hugs:

Wow that is brilliant news! Congratulations on your :bfp:. It just shows you can never tell when it is going to happen for you.

Yes, you want to catch the egg before it releases. So it's very important to BD before you ovulate, AND during your ovulation. After you ovulate would be too late for any sperm to catch the egg.

mr doddy - i dont know when my pains will start lol this is the problem isnt it. I had sex 2 hours before my ov pains started last month and still didnt get a bfp so i dont really know when is the best time, every other day from sort of day 8 onwards till when your due on your period might be a good idea although very hard work.

Colsy im not feeling sad i just havent changed my mood thing from when my period started lol are you ok hun? xx

Are OV pains just like cramps? Im not sure if ive had them before?!

xx

PinkTink = they are sharp stabbing pains on and off from one side or another - or both - I do get some period cramps and feel very emotional too

mine are stabbing pains on the left side they last from a hour to a full day, Its like having a stitch in my side (always on the left only have left ovary)

Hey Claire9991, glad to see you're now feeling angelic:-) Me, I'm OK thanks - lots of ov pains ... hence my original question!

As for what do ov pains feel like, well to me they're not stabbing at all, and they're not really like period pains either. They're more like a cross between feeling like you're really bloated with feeling like somebody's just winded you by hitting you in the abdomen. Nice. Oh, and with a bit of lower back pain thrown in for good measure.

Hiya,

Just wanted to add that ov cramps can happen before, during or after ov. if you know exactly when you ov (cbfm or opk's) you can probably tell somewhat when you're gonna ov. However, even with tests there is no way of knowing when the egg is released, short of having a camera up your hoohaa (lol) and it simply tells you are about to ov. It could be in the next 3 hours or 15.

As a general rule, getting bd in before you ov will yield you the highest chance of success as the sperm needs to swim a god awful long way to get to your fallopian tube. So having them already waiting, willing and able is the way to do it. According to a study done in the US couples who successfully conceived did so, with equal percentages of about 36%, on 2 days before ov and on ov day itself.

Having conceived twice on this premise i think its proof it works! In fact, the first pg was conceived on bd the last time 2 days before ov!!!

Hope this rambling helps, lol!

Omi xxx
