I know it must sound mad but I'm worried that I shouldn't allow my LO to go 12 hours at night without a feed. I always used to feed her about 3-4 in the morning. Then she started waking at 2am and I just gave her a dummy and she went back to sleep (I planned to hold out until 3/4). She then never woke up again until 5:30am so then I just gave her the dummy again and she never put up much fuss.

I've tried a few nights like this and last night I never went into her until 6am this morning. She was waking on and off between 2 and 5 as she was grunting and making various fussy noises but nothing too bad. Every time I thought I would give in and go and feed her she went back to sleep. (She never cried at all - just winged a little bit)

Should I leave the not feeding at night or should I go in and give her the bottle?
(She's nearly 4 months)

Dreamfeed before you go to bed?

Dreamfeeding never worked for me, she wakes and then won't go back to sleep!

My LO is just 3 months and only fed at 5am ish, sleep by 8-9pm. 5am has gone half hour later until its now at almost 7am! I certainly not waking her lol! GIves me sleep and she'd tell me if she was hungry!

No need to worry, that's fine. You're right to give her dummy as it sounds like she's waking up through habit not hunger.

I had this issue and my HV said that at this age you need to be careful because of dehydration.

So I give an extra bottle at 11/11.30pm but do what you're comfortable with. Violet takes the extra bottle if offered but if it wasn't, she wouldn't wake up crying for it.. So she needs it but wouldn't let me know if it wasn't offered.

I let Chloe sleep through she would tell me if she was hungry and at the moment she isn't finishing her first and last bottles of the day so im assuming she's taking what she needs!!!
Im sure she'll make it known if she's hungry

before she goes down for the night give her as much as she can take and if she poos give her a bit more if not leave her, if she stil wakes up just give her her dummy as she might just be wanting the suckin pleasure like khy. now aslong as the dummys in her mouth thoughout the night shil sleep 4 9-10 hrs after a 6oz feed

hope this helps

Theo sleeps through the night, I'm certainly not waking him for a feed, he'd let me know if he were hungry, as I'm sure your LO would do the same xx

personally i think she's fine :D my daughter slept through from 6weeks, so her last bottle with be around 7/8pm and she would wake up in the morning around 7/8am for her bottle and then eat like a piggy in the daytime. i am also of the opinion that if they are hungry, they will tell you x

as long as LO is getting enough during the day i would leave her to sleep through. try giving an extra ounce in last feed as that may stop her rousing slightly.

both my boys slept fro 10/11pm until 5am at 8weeks. HV was fine with this.

Nathan goes to bed at 7pm (he chose this time!) and wakes at 6am so thats 11 hours then has a bottle and goes back to bed for another hour or two.

I believe that if they are hungry/thirsty they will wake and cry out just like they do during the day or when they were aking in the night.

I would say so long as baby is weeing and pooing fine they whats the point in waking them to feed them?

Emma.xx

babies need the night feed until they are 6 months old i would wake her to feed her. 12 hours is far too long. my son is 3 months has 1 night feed of 3oz and he does ok on that then wakes around 7.30 for a bottle

Hi, just interested in where you got this info from? I haven't fed Ruby in the night since she was 3 weeks old and she is a thriving, happy baby.

my dr and health visitor told me not to let leo go without a night feed as babies need the nourishment until they are 6 months old then as they have been on solids their bodies can handle this but again i guess its preference

Thanks..Isn't it funny and confusing how many differences in opinion there are between health professionals...the ones in my area advise demand feeding (which so didn't work for us).
I still believe that if Ruby's body couldn't cope with going that long without a feed, she'd let me know in no uncertain terms :)

I asked my HV about this the other day and she said it was fine and that she would wake if she was hungry. She's gaining weight so I'm going to stick with not waking her. Thanks for all your replies

I demand feed my twins and they sleep 12hrs at night,we havent introduced the dream feed with them at all.

We're the same as the last few posters - Toby is sleeping through until around 6am (bedtime at 7pm ish). We've never dream-fed him, he hasn't ever taken to it. He has dropped all night time feeds himself, we have never done anything to encourage him to drop them. First to go was the 10pm feed, then the 1am feed, then finally - about 3 weeks ago - the 3am feed. We'd happily do night feeds if that is what he needs but he doesn't or he would be waking for them! HV was very pleased when I told her he was sleeping through! We demand feed too and in a surprising turn of events, T woke at 11pm last night so we fed him.

Good luck xxx

Glad you posted this- our LO dropped his 11pm bottle weeks ago and wouldn't entertain it if we woke him. Recently his early hours feed is getting later and later. Its getting to about 530 now and I think he'll sleep thru soon but I was worried about the 12 hours thing.. sounds like the majority have had no probs x
