Or do I need to stop gradually?my baby on aptimal but doesn't seem to b agreeing with him,he just trumps most of day and seems in discomfort, anyone recommend a alternate please

Generally, you should do it gradually (roughly one feed a day, increasing each day). But if you really think it's the specific brand (you've tried him on another and he's fine with that), then I would do it a bit more quickly. We switched gradually from Cow and Gate to Hipp, but my daughter had an awful reaction to Hipp (gave her terrible reflux and projectile vomiting, which she only got after those feeds and it escalated as soon as she was 100% on Hipp). So I switched her back to Cow and Gate immediately rather than gradually and her issues disappeared. I didn't want to take any more time to do it in that case because she was being so sick.

Are you sure it's the specific brand and not just formula in general? Formula is rough on baby's bellies and does tend to cause more discomfort than breast milk (which could be made worse if you baby has a dairy intolerance or a reaction to something in the formula, there's weird stuff in there, including fish!). It could also be something entirely unrelated to what she's eating. Some babies just seem uncomfortable while their digestive systems get up and working.

If you do want to switch, you might just want to buy some of those little ready to feed cartons and try out a few different brands and see what works best before you commit. Aptamil is generally considered one of the better brands, but you might consider trying Hipp. Most everyone else says it's gentler on tummies than any other brand. We had a bad experience, but most babies seem to really get on with it. It might be worth a try?

I express twice a day so baby getting about 100 mil of breast milk a day,my health visitor said some babies who have both generally b more windy,my baby been on aptimal now or around 3 weeks now,I started using infacol yest before each feed as hv recommended, baby trumped lots today so wondering if makin him worse or its causing him to trump lots in a good way to relieve pain!

Yes,still do it gradually.
1 part new formula,3 parts old, then 2 days later equal parts,(1/2&1/2) then another 2 days 1 part old formula 3 parts new,and another 2 days later all new formula.

If you go cold turkey, and it affects their stomach,it could be from the quick change. That will sway you from the new formula and you'll end up trying all these other kinds that can possibly be too harsh too.

Just switch straight over. There's no evidence to suggest that changing brands has any ill effect whatsoever as it says in the NHS birth to five book.

The prebiotics in aptamil seem to cause lots of issues for babies sma is usually a good alternative for those babies who have probs with aptamil. Cow and gate is practically the same product so would probably be the same x

We swapped numerous times straight away each time, my lo is and was fine xx

Our paediatrician said its fine to just change. My daughters milk has been changed 6 times since she was born with no ill effect

I have switched back and forth between three different anti reflux formulas with no problems. I actually have three different types in the cupboard now and use all of them.

Would just like to say cow and gate and aptamil are the same xxx

They're not they have different prebiotic levels.

But they are sister companies made in adjoining factories. Cow & Gate told me Aptamil ingredients are higher quality x

In the first month and a bit of LOs life we trialled about 3 different formulas. We just swapped straight away and gave him about a week and a bit on each formula to see how he went. Aptamil AR was the best one for us.

We didn't use any brand in particular I just bought whatever was in the shop/on offer. Didn't seem to make any difference!
