Pretty much says it all in the title.. My little girl has my surname so I wondered if that means he would have to have permisson to take her out the country? x

If the FOB is named on the birth certificate they have full parental rights and can take them out of the country regardless of their surname.

i dont know about rights but i do know some one who has a differnt surname to her mum even though her parents are married and she was taken a side and asked if she knew this person

This was few years back my family went on holiday together & my sister had to get written permission from the father of her two children under 16 so she could get their visas

I don't know about the UK, but it's funny, because my aunt just sent me a message on Facebook regarding this very same issue. She was pleading with me to give the baby my last name because she gave her child the fathers name and she had to get written permission from the father to take her daughter to Canada and Mexico - which he wouldn't give - and he was a total deadbeat and showed no interest in the baby whatsoever.

It works if you bring your child's birth certificate with you - as these rules are strict even within the EU. I have flown to Sweden 3 times since my son was born (just me and him) and the first time round the border security didn't want to let me back into the UK as I had no docs to prove Ethan is my son. I totally freaked out and I guess they trusted my reaction, but advised to either get a written letter from the father or bring Ethan's birt certificate with me. There were no problems the two other times.

Ethan's dad is also a deadbeat and would never sign any such docs either.

I am hearing the same things, some people have even told me I can be stopped at the airport and asked for written permission (traveling within the US) if I have a different last name...one more reason to use my own, if the dad turns out not to suck (unlikely) I can change it later if I want to...

and don't you talk to him anymore!!! He is going to try to make you use his name, and he is already blaming his TERRIBLE actions on you!! If you do go against all that is holy and talk to him :) at LEAST tell him you aren't sure which name you'll use...then maybe he'll pretend to be nice for the last few weeks...but even then...use yours!!! Think of this - if he marries that awful, trashy woman, and they both have the same name, she will have your child's last name...and you won't!
