So i am in the process of wanting to change my little man over to formula. Ill start off with mixing my milk with it, and gradually wean him onto formula completely.

I have a organic one which is quite popular here in Australia. I gave him some last week but found he'd have reflux about 40 mins later and its very sicky smelling reflux. The reflux is clear.

Does this mean he is simply not agreeing with the formula and i should get a different one, or if i persist can he get used to it and the reflux will stop?

I am so naive with this...sorry if i sound stupid!

I would call the maternal child nurse, but i called them last week for advice and they just acted very judgmental with me and told me to stick with BF and gave me no advice whatsoever. :growlmad:

Should i get a different one or is it ok to persist? I feel bad with the poor little guy having reflux and don't want him to suffer, but i don't want to spend a fortune if all i needed to do was give him a chance to get used to it.

Hi has your little one being dignosed with reflux? or are you just assuming its reflux because he brought a bit of sick up?

If he hasn't been dignosed then it could just be the milk not agreeing with him or just because he's not used to formula?

My son was dignosed with reflux at 3months old, he sometimes gets upset during feeds (although on his meds it doesnt happen often, like it did when he wasnt on meds) he will sometimes projectile vomit alot of milk like a whole bottle. sometimes brings mouthfulls up after feeds, sometimes gets really unsettled and dont even get me started on solids he brings every tiny bit of solids he's been given up along with the last bottle so proectile vomit. it doesnt sound like typical reflux to me. you could maybe change the milk see how you get on, some milks made the baby sicky.

but unless your Lo is really sicky, unsettled and its affecting feeds i wouldnt worry too much. if your Lo has reflux you should ask your doctor to prescibe your son some meds.

Ohh ok yeah my LO hasn't been diagnosed with it as such as it hasn't ever been bad enough for me to need it looked into. But its been a long time since he has any sort of reflux, then all of a sudden after he had some formula he does.

Might have been something else though as i have tried him with the same formula again mixed with my milk, and so far 45 mins later he has had no sick up! So it may have been something else! Fingers crossed. Thanks so much for your reply. :) x

Edit: Sorry to hear your LO has had it so bad :(

Thank you. i would try another milk see how you get on, its normal for babies to be a bit sicky from time to time but if its alot then thats when to get it looked into. hopefully you will get on a bit better with another milk :) good luck xx

So when you say reflux, do you mean spit-up? Like a little bit of the formula came back up without him seeming to notice? If so it's probably just that his tummy has to adjust to the formula. My lo has silent reflux and she will cry and pull away from the bottle while eating or make a grunting noise while she eating, gets hickups all the time and gets a sort of foamy mouth if she's not upright for a while after a feeding.

The general rule of thumb is to give a formula two weeks for them to adjust and see if it's the right formula for them, unless of course there's a severe issue with it. Was he getting any pumped bm from a bottle before? If not maybe it was just air from the bottle that you weren't used to with bfing and you'd need to burp more often during a feed.

It was a spit up but it wasn't milky, it was a clear spit up and it smelled very sicky.

Strangely though i have tried him again on that formula and he hasn't had any issues since! Now my mission is to get him to accept the bottle! But im glad he is no longer sicking up! Id say his belly was adjusting. :)
