Is soup a meal?

My mum would make bacon, lentil and carrot soup and she would whisk up some mashed potato ooooh yummy

Ingredients
1 large onion, chopped
2 cloves of garlic, crushed
2 sticks of celery, chopped

8 slices of bacon (all fat removed)
8 cups (approx 2 litres) of vegetable stock
4 tablespoons of tomato paste
2 teaspoons of mixed herbs
splash of balsamic vinegar
splash of Worcestershire sauce
salt and pepper to season
Frylight or Pam spray
Method
Spray a large saucepan with some Frylight or Pam spray
Add the bacon, fry until golden and remove and set aside.
Add the onion, garlic, celery and carrots and fry for about 5 mins.
Add the lentils, tomato paste, stock, herbs, balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, then cover and simmer for 1 hour.
Re add the bacon and continue to simmer for about 30 mins.
Season with salt and black pepper as required.
Serve and Enjoy!!

That is the recipe, I just add a small glass of white wine to make it that little bit more indulgent :haha:

Blah that lentil and bacon soup sounds soooo good. I love soup.

Soup out of a tin, i would have as lunch but i would class home made soup as a main meal, especially if it has potato's, noodles, pasta etc.

no i dont think soup is a mai meal - id prob have it for lunch tho if i didnt fancy much x

Do you this think would taste o.k if I was to leave out the celery? I can't stand it and neither can the kids.
I see alot of recipes for Soup with Celery in and it puts me of trying it.

Again this one sounds lovely but the celery kinds of puts me off a little. :)

I love nothing more than a nice big bowl of soup and crusty bread and butter on a cold wintery night!... Hubby loves soup too but he has to have 2 sandwiches with it lol

xx

Just out of interest what do you ladies put in the sandwiches you give your OH with soup? I cant think of anything that would go with soup :dohh:

Hmmm I would say that yes it is for lunch but not for your evening meal?

I'd have it, but OH wouldn't just have that at tea time, but he probably would for dinner.

I agree with PP. Tinned soup I'd class as lunch. If it was home made thick soup then I'd have it for tea x

It's definitely a meal! My OH is a bit like that too. Just do lots of bread with it and you'll be right, it will make it filling.

My OH doesn't like soup :( I love it and to me it's a meal!! Mmmm soup!

Definitely. I only eat homemade soup or cupasoup (don't like it from a can). Cupasoup for lunch with a cheese toastie to dip and homemade soup for tea with crusty bread - yum!
