Hi there, I was wondering if you ladies could explain something. Ttc #2 me ideopathic anovulstion him - crap sperm. Ds (3) Ivf/icsi.
I was thinking iui sounded right for me. But everything I'm reading is saying if you are on the wrong side of 40 then it's pointless. I don't understand why? I know my eggs are hard boiled but I really want to try it.dh has low count and I only ovulate on clomid. Surely that would mean iui would be good for us? I'm too old for IVF with my own eggs.
Why is IUI with clomid not doable at my age?
Feeling really down and confused.
Should I battle with re and throw the cash away or give up on my own eggs?

I would think clomid with IUI would up your chances as compared to clomid + TI, or just TI. That being said, any trying is only as good as the eggs & sperm used. If your egg & sperm quality is really bad, then even IVF may not be able help you. This is harsh but true. :hugs:

However, even if, generally speaking, your egg quality is poor, most believe there is still at least one good egg in there, so it's important to give yourself the best shot to fertilize it! Like I said, IUI is better than nothing, so if that's the most you can do, then fight to get it. I know there are lots of "older" London ladies who head over to the Czech Rep or other places for IVF with their own eggs & have success. Of course, donor eggs increase your chances dramatically. That is the dilemma I am facing--try IVF with own eggs or move on to donor eggs...

Good luck to you!

Thanks for your reply Vonn. I am thinking of DE if iui doesn't work. I've just seen the price in czech republics for iui with chlomid. £158!!!! I could have ten goes at it! I want to try my own eggs as I know if I move to DE I will always wonder. I'm to old for IVF with OE, I know that. But if iui is so cheap then why not? I had a loss 2 years ago and haven't ovulated by myself since and Drs are baffled.
41 is very young to consider DE. I had BFP Ivf/ icsi. At 41. The odds are still ok especially with pgd.
Xx

It's encouraging to see that you had a successful IVF cycle at 41 with your own eggs. Thanks for sharing! May I ask a few questions?

Were you having ovulation trouble & sperm trouble back then, as well?
Did you have success on your first IVF cycle or did it take multiple tries?
Could you share how your stimming went?
--how many eggs were retrieved?
--how many fertilized?
--how many implanted?
Did you do pgs/pgd?

This decision is weighing a lot on me. Paying for IVF out of pocket is so expensive here, we won't get a bunch of tries. I want success most of all!

Sure. We went straight to Ivf . I had no issues then apart from a small fibroid and hypothyroid. oH sperm was terrible. I went to one clinic who messed us about and massively. We ended up going to one with a lower success rate as we trusted them. They were honest and explained the high result clinics were really selective who they did Ivf on and inherantly its a money making thing. I liked that. I was really hung up on numbers fsh, how many follies, enbies etc. the rE said 'stop' you want one good egg and one good sperm. And that is what happened! He refused to increase my stim dose I got 6 eggs 4 fertilised 2 made it to transfer at Day 2/3.' One was a bit rubbish looking' . He said 'better in than out.' It was my first attempt. Didn't get offered pgd. I'm not sure if it was popular 3 years ago?
I really did my research on clinics and I think it paid off. We also got a huge loan out !

Congrats on the success and thanks for sharing about it! I wish, wish, wish for the same outcome. :flower:
