Hi all,

I'm having my first IUI this Friday (triggering on Wednesday night) and was wondering how many of you have had IUI success. I'm feeling really hopeful about it but of course I really want this too. Been ttcing for over 6 years now.

I have one beautiful follicle measuring at 16mm. I am happy it's only one as I can't carry multiples.

:dust: to all!

Hi Co_fostermom. Good luck to you.
My almost 5 year old was the result of our first ever iui, we were amazed we were so lucky for it to work first time. We have had two other Iui’s since but neither worked so we ended up doing IVF with ICSI.

Myself I know two ladies with first time success

Stardust, if I get pregnant, it looks like we’ll be due around the same time!

Thanks ladies for your answers.

Out of curiosity, how long did the cramping last for you after the iui? I’ve been crampy all day...

Hi ladies!!
Im doing my first IUI this month. On cd9 now and expecting a positive opk this sunday!

I was just wondering how old you all are?

Im 39. Turning 40 in 1.5 months!

I joined this forum about 7 years ago! When i was married and ttc with my ex husband. Now ttc with my now fiance Due to my past failure experience i decided to try assisted conception right away! I never knew what was wrong as all my tests and my ex were fine. But now my age takes a big toll so rather go ahead with treatments from the start.

Anyway just wondering how old you all are/were when you got your positive iui

Good luck to all❤️

I just finished out my 2nd IUI. I'm 32. I'm pretty sure I am having a chemical pregnancy, so at the very least I got pregnant this time...little bean just didn't stick.

Best of luck to you!

Hi gals! I would love to join in. I am 33 and just got referred to RE to discuss clomid + IUI. Don't have dates yet but am just trying to get my head wrapped around all of this :)

Good luck cofostermom! I hope it's not a CP and it sticks!

Keep us posted Arianne!

co_fostermom when will you know? why do you think it might be a chemical pregnancy?

jmack54 how long have you been trying?

I think i might be going this sunday for the procedure (i expect to get a positive opk that day)

Good luck to you all!

We've been trying for about a year and a half. Just got all our bloodwork done and had the results meeting w my OB. My FSH was 11.1 and AMH was 1.77 which my OB said are both borderline so she wants us to move more quickly. My husband's SA looked good, slightly low morphology but she wasn't concerned.

Nervous for our first RE consult and to decide if we want to pay the cost of IUI since my insurance doesn't cover it.

Arianne is this your first IUI? Good luck on Sunday (or whatever day it ends up happening!)

arianne...I've been on progesterone which prevents AF from showing up (like in a normal cycle). I know this is turning into a chemical because I had four positive tests two days in a row and then they turned negative. Some would argue that those positives were from the trigger shot (which is hcg) but I know from my first IUI that by 10 and 11dpo (when I got the positives), the trigger was out of my system (I tested out of it by 9dpo and the positives wouldn't have been darker on 11dpo). I also believe I felt implantation from 7-9dpo (most intense on 8dpo). I'm 14dpiui today and I believe 13dpo today because I didn't notice a temp shift until two days after my IUI, suggesting that I ovulated the day after my IUI.

GL to everyone starting IUIs. They really are not as scary as they seem. My body was in a pretty turbulent state during my first IUI (cramps, sore bbs, fatigue, weird cravings, heightened sense of smell), but I think that's because with my first IUI I was on estrogen AND progesterone and that was not a fun combination. This cycle my body has been much calmer, and I would say my main pregnancy symptoms were that my skin was gorgeous (I normally break out horribly before AF), I was not craving nor wanting chocolate at all (another sure sign of AF coming), one-sided cramping and minor backache from 7-9dpo with continually dull cramping through today, tender bbs starting on 11dpo, and some very minor nausea (related to a headache that occurred right on the dot in the afternoon two days in a row). Everything else was completely "normal" and calm. When I talk about these symptoms, I also want to point out that they were nothing compared to past "symptoms" I've experienced during anovulatory cycles and the like.

You might have some cramping right after your IUI and the IUI itself is slightly painful (it hurts when they bump the top of your uterus with the catheter) but other than that, it's really nothing to worry about. Even though I think this cycle is ending in a chemical, I would say it's a better first route to take before spending thousands of dollars on IVF (IUIs average $1200-$1500 per cycle which you typically don't pay all at once where as IVF averages $12,500). It's also much less invasive than IVF and doesn't require any sort of surgery or egg retrieval. Your doctor would be able to tell you if you're a good candidate for it or not.

Wow thanks for all the info!!
I used to be pretty good at knowing all the lingo and what each thing meant. Now after 7 years i already forgot!

I think im just going to try IUI once. This cycle. If if doesnt work ill start the IVF process. In fact im bringing all my ivf consent forms tomorrow to start scheduling everything. Planning to start in June. As ill be away most of may.

Also im getting married feb 21 next year. So if this works it means ill have a 1.5 old baby and a bit scare to take a newborn to mexico (where we will get married) also would mean id be 1 month pregnant on my may trip and im a bit scared too to travel overseas in the first trimester.
So that is why i will be ok if tomorrow doesnt work. Its becoming so tricky to plan it around these two events though! But i have to because im turning 40 soon!
Thinking to freeze my embrios too and wait to use them after my wedding. But not sure that might be too late too :(

I would give yourself at least two tries at an IUI...my body was overwhelmed by all the stimulation during my first IUI but my second was much calmer and pseudo successful if you count the fact that I did get pregnant...just didn't stick.

Your RE should talk to you about Zika especially if you are traveling south. They might not want to start a cycle if you'll be pregnant and traveling to affected areas.

I've heard freezing eggs (not just embryos) is a good way of preserving fertility.

As far as lingo....dpo = days past ovulation, dpiui = days past IUI, GL = good luck, AF = Aunt Flo (period), Hcg = the stuff that is produced when you're pregnant and what hpts (home pregnancy tests) detect.

co_fostermom OMG i didnt think about that!!

I am going to NZ an Fiji, i looked it up and NZ seems fine, but Fiji is a place with risk of Zika :(((

I just told my fiance, and i think we wont do it :( Im so sad i was looking forward to it :( it annoys me i took pills for nothing

The problem is that we wanted to try IUI before IVF, but once we are back from our trip we wont be able to try IUI anymore as that would mean we would need to cancel our wedding if it works. And i dont want to wait to try IUI until sept or so because if it doesnt work, it means i will start with the IVF process too late.

So new plan now is to ask tomorrow for all the requirements to start IVF asap, freeze the embrios, and use them after my wedding. Since i cant travel pregnant to my wedding either (which was my plan if the IVF worked) as that area in mexico also has Zika risk.

At least ill start IVF process now. I heard sometimes the embrios dont even survive and they cannot even be used. My friend has been trying IVF for a while and they where never able to place it into her uterus as all her embrios died/had bad quality to be used.

Im so glad im in this forum and you mentioned this. Even though im super dissapointed haha

Thank you for the advice!!!

As for freezing just the eggs, my doctor discouraged me from doing that (due to my age) he said if i would be at least under 35 it would make sense, but if i wanted to waste my money i could try to freeze them lol

He recommended me instead to freeze an embrio. But at that time i was single so no one to do it with lol! This was when i was 37 and still single with hopes to find someone one day

I see arianne. That makes sense. I think freezing embryos is a good plan. As long as you do it before you travel, there should be little to no risk of contracting Zika. You'd just have to wait (I think) 6 months before starting an IVF or IUI cycle. I will say that while IUI is cheaper, IVF has a much higher success rate.

I'm wondering this too! I can't quite say I have infertility quite yet since it has not been quite a year of trying, but almost has been!
Starting this month we have to take 8 months off of trying :( I am so bummed. I will start up trying again in December and at that point I dont know what to do! I dont want to just keep trying month after month. I just turned 34. I had my AMH done last month and it was 3.2 so that made me feel better. My FSH was 5.7. Both numbers are super good.
HSG was normal, had a saline ultrasound- it was normal.
I got pregnant with my other kids super quick. This is just confusing as to why it isn't working now!
I wonder what my chances of conceiving with a medicated IUI would be.

ashley....in the time that you have to take off, it might be helpful to consult with a specialist. You don't have to pursue treatment after a consultation but at least you'll have someone who really knows what they're doing assessing your situation. That way, when you're ready to try again, you'll have a better idea of what you need to do and therefore what direction to take. :hugs:
