Ladies I'm hoping someone may be able to help me.:flower:

I'm hoping to shortly start stimms (I'm currently on my 1st attempt of IVF with ICSI).

I'm starting to worry about OHSS, I had always thought it was very rare but it seems quite a few women get it whilst stimming.

Is there anything I can do to help avoid OHSS? I think I read somewhere that you should drink lots of water and wear flight socks, but other than that I'm not sure...

Any advice would be greatfully recieved! Thanks Ladies

Mine told me lots of salty foods and high protein foods and gatorade.

:hugs:

I'd never heard of the flight socks!

Do you have PCOS? OHSS is much more common in ladies with PCOS, due to the high number of follicles to start with. I'm sure you'll be fine, are you having a scan before you start your stims? This should give you some reassurance.

OHSS really is quite unusual, but in a forum like this, which brings a larger than average number of ladies with TTC issues together, will always make our problems and potential problems seem so much worse, iykwim!

Hi Hun

just wanted to reply, as after our first Stim cycle I was hospitalised with OHSS. I was told it was a pretty severe case but in the end both bub and me made it through ok. It is made worse if you get a BFP as the HCG tends to make all the symptoms flare up more. But it's treatable and although it's scary they say a high protien diet can help to avoid it. Although drink lots and lots of fluids...as I was told this really is the key. You do bloat a lot, and I looked about 8 months pregnant!! But it does go down. Key is to look for signs so you can be treated early. Swelling was my first sign...It comes on pretty quick.

You'll be fine :)

I had it too in Jan. Advice from my clinic was to drink lots and totally rest up. To be honest I had no choice as I was so bloated it was a struggle just to stand up! I haf 26 follies, so was over stimmed, but I'd have the same meds again to get as many eggs. It was worth it.

Hi

I had it in june had 32 eggs, did not have PCOS just unluckly and had to have frozen embryo. I drank loads of water and had to have an hormonal injection to help prevent it. I was very disappointed at the time but realise our health is very important. I am now starting down reg once the witch is here for my FET cycle. I am sure you will be fine but if in the small chance it did happen you can get loads of support on here.

Hi,

OHSS worries me too. We are due to start our first cycle in Sept and I have been diagnosed with pcos which means higher risk of ohss. I've been put on the short antagonist protocol because there is less risk but it still scares the hell out of me.

I,m bricking it too! Ended up with 9 follies on 150iu -mild icsi on the short antagonist protocol, which they say was the high end for mild ivf.... Now i'm on a long agonist protocol and an increased dose, not much -225gonal, but i really don't want to end up in hospital...

Spring, you will be fine hun, you're on a mini-dose!
