IVF question advice needed

Anyone out there who has had experience with IVF?

I was all set for IUI then I got a phonecall on the way hom from the consultant saying he had shown his collegues with OH SA results and they have also said that IVF is the best route, so we agreed and hopefully everything shall be sorted for my next cycle that starts in 7 days.

All I got from him is wait for someone to call you to arrange delivery of your meds and I shall send you instructions on what to do!!!

I am confident that this is gonna work but I am unsure how the meds work are you suppose to start on Day 1?? I really hate not knowing what is going off so if someone could help me I would be grateful.

Hi Yomo. There are different protocols for ivf. Long and short, and lots of different drugs that are used. I would call your clinic and speak to a nurse and they should be able to advise you further.

The nurse from your clinic should call you and give you a calendar stating what to do each day. I doubt that they would ever give you IVF meds without any instructions. Everyone is different, so no one usually has the exact same protocol. Good Luck!!

If you are on the long protocol, where they 'down regulate' you for a couple of weeks to effectively take over your hormones and stop your body doing what it does naturally, then the drugs start on day 21. If its the short protocol, I think (but might not be right) that you would still need a scan before you start any stimulation meds just to make sure there aren't any problems. I think most people tend to do the long protocol so best to call CARE and find out which one you will be on. At least then you can prepare yourself mentally.

Thanks for your replies, I have given care a call and all seems clear now, she says that I am doing long protocal so starting on day 21 she didn't mention anything about the down reg though. Forgot to ask her if I have to miss clomid this month I assume so.
