Hi all, I have a few questions re IVF. I know it's different depending on the area in which you live but if I can get a few generalisations, that would be awesome.

I've had the bloods and SA tests all done (2 years ago), and I've recently been rereferred for fertility help as it was ground to a halt a couple years ago. So I have my letter through. Now, I remember we were just applying for funding so we'd have to do this again. How long does it take to get a response, and then how long from the response does it take for things to get going? I'm not sure of the waiting list down here (somerset, UK) but it was moving quite swiftly a couple years ago if I remember rightly.

Hey hun

We got our referral last year and it was sent off early October. We heard back from the ACU within 3 weeks and had an appt scheduled for 3 months after that. We rang them, said we were happy to take any cancellations at short notice and got seen the month after.

At our first appt they scheduled tests - SA for DH and i had HSG and ultrasound. My bloods had been done a couple of months before that so i didn't need to repeat them. At our appt in November they gave us an appt 3 months later to ensure all tests were done and that our GPs had responded to requests for information.

Our next appt is Weds and all tests have been done and we will be told we are going for ICSI. We are lucky that our PCT means we have now wait and treatment is normally commenced within 6 months, so basically between next Weds and August we should commence treatment.

Depending on whether you are NHS or private depends on the speed of it all i guess? I'm sure someone else will be along soon to give you different perspective! Good luck hun xx

Hi Brokenbits

I literally saw the fertility consultant last Monday at Taunton Hospital (I live in Glastonbury) and was referred for IVF as my tubes are completely blocked. The FS said the funding is currently coming through in a week! and that as soon as they get all the necessary blood tests back they do the referral to Southmead hospital. From when the iniitial funding application is sent off it takes about 2 months to get an appointment at Southmead. IVF will start quite quickly after that. We get funded for two cycles, which is good. You don't have to go to Southmead you can choose another clinic, but Southmead is the best anyway.:happydance:

Of course if you are Bath and North East Somerset, it might be different.

Hope that helps. Was your letter inviting you to see the consultant to apply for IVF?

We may even be bumping into each other in Southmead in the next Month or two.

Hi Brambletess,

I've done all the bloods/scans etc and I've been told I'll need IVF (which I already knew, I have a chronic cilia condition) and 2 years ago we were just applying for the funding but due to circumstances everything had to stop. So recently I asked my Dr to re-refer me, i've had the appt through and I guess it'll start from the applying for funding step again?

I live in Somerton! Not far from you at all!!!
