Well, we finally had our chat with the consultant. She has put us on the IVF list, and we'll have our lengthy talk with her in March to arrange dates etc. We get a free cycle of IVF on the NHS, so fingers crossed!
We should be up and running in about 3-4 months with all the various appointments we'll have to attend. Our local hospital doesn't facilitate the clinical technical stuff, so we'll have to travel about 100 miles for these appointments!!!
Anyone else done the IVF thing? Any tips?

Hey Livi,
Im not doing IVF, but IUI instead.
The first stage of IUI is the same as IVF so id be interested to share experiences with you.
Were getting the screening tests done in April so maybe starting along teh same time as you.

Cheers for your support guys! We were offered x4 free goes of IUI on the NHS but decided to go straight for the IVF cause with the IUI we'd not know if the sperm was actually capable of ferlilizing the egg. At least we'll know with the IVF. Then if it fertilizes it but I don't get PG, we know there maybe a chance on IUI. If it can't actually fertilize it, then we'll know not to bother with the IUI!!! Hope that makes sense???!!!!!!

Hi Livi

I just wanted to wish you the very best of luck.

Advice? ...hmmmm....

Take each bit of the IVF treatment at a time. I found it overwhelming when I thought about all of the stages so that way I was only going from injection to injection or to the next hospital appointment.

Get some ice-packs in to help freeze the spots where you are injecting first.

Make full use of any counselling you are offered.

Think about taking up some kind of complimentary therapy. I went for hypnotherapy and I know a lot of women go for accupuncture.

Don't feel that you have to cope with everything like a superwoman. It all got a bit too much for me and I got myself signed off from work for the 2WW.

Hope that's helpful, but if you have any other questions please ask.

Hiya Livi

Thought I would post this link for you, it gives a step by step guide to what happens during the IVF process, something I appreciated as I felt I was venturing into the unknown and didn't feel the clinic went into the level of detail I wanted, even though they did try!

Just bear in mind that different clinics have different protocols, but this is good for a general guide if you click through the pages.

Thankyou again guys! I will read the article and do a bit of research I think. I think that I'm gonna take it one step at a time. How did your OH's take to it all? I think it's all a bit much for mine, so he's in denial about how crap it could get. I always think as a realist. i.e. it might not happen! We can't afford to pay for any cycles right now, so this 1st one is our only shot really!! TBH i'm really scared and not sure how i'll cope if it all goes tits up!!

How many cycles did you guys have to do before you had success?

Heya livi, hoping all goes well for you x x x x x

How did your OH's take to it all? I think it's all a bit much for mine, so he's in denial about how crap it could get.

I'm not sure we talked about it all that much. We went for counselling together and he was kinda stoic about the whole thing and just got on with it. As I said we went from injection to injection really so maybe that could be interpreted as denial. Actually discovering we were PG at the end was a bit of a shock because we hadn't let ourselves think that far IYKWIM.

He was good at giving me a really nice cuddle after each injection and passing me the tissues when I was crying. I thought he was pretty brave really as he has a big fear of needles. If someone brings a needle near him he practically passes out. Yet he did the majority of my injections. I did the tummy ones, he did the leg and bum ones.

I think the experience brought us closer together in the end though it was really difficult at the time. His mother was seriously ill at the same time which must have meant he was stretched to breaking point trying to be strong for everyone. Yet if I say that to him he just shrugs it off. Big ol' softy.

How many cycles did you guys have to do before you had success?

One. I know we are the luckiest people alive for it to work first time and to end up with twins and one of each.

I just wanted to pop by and offer some :hugs: and lots of good luck for you both. I really hope it all works out well for you.
