Has anyone else decided to join a gym in order to loose some weight in a bid to help to conceive? I thinking of joining however if i did it would be a 12 months contract and what if i fall pregnant soon and still have to pay out for a gym membership i no longer use....help!

good idea to join the gym, and dont stop gym when pregnant...you can lighten up the gym workout but its good to keep going gym, as the fitter you are the better it is for you and baby while pregnant, and for the impending birth

i'm starting weight loss again too after 3 weeks of being lazy.

i say go for it. be sensible about the weight loss, no faddy diets or drastic diets, just eat healthy and aim to lose 1-2 pounds a week (1kg) that the best,..

Hi, You can get out of contracts with gym's with a doctors letter........in fact most gym's are good about it and you don't actually need to go to the lengths of getting your doctor to write you a letter, if you need out of the contract just tell them the truth.......afterall the last thing they want as a company is the thought of something terrible happening to one of its pregnant members and it getting out that you actually tried to leave and they wouldnt let you??? (touch wood)

But it wouldn't exactly be good for business for them!

I joined the gym in the hope that being healthy would speed up our :bfp: Sadly no luck so far!
I do keep meaning to cancel my membership (I can cancel at any time) but I know that I should at least keep up the swimming, fingers crossed for tomorrow ;)

Lea I am not to sure how far away this one is from you but it is the same chain as mine and you pay monthly but can cancel whenever you want - I pay £27 monthly

I just joined my friend who is aiming to run a 5k in Sepember. I am starting to do a little running this week but if I fall pregnant I'll just aim to do a slow run/jog. I think if nothing else it gives me another goal other than ttc which i'm becoming a bit obsessed about.

I've been wondering about this as well, I wanted to join well before TTC but I've been so busy and now its here and still no gym. So I was wondering if I joined and got pregnant would I be ok to still go for a while, not sure if I would have to tell someone at gym maybe ask them if there's equipment best to avoid?

Im ashamed to say this but I actually have a treadmill, cross trainer, exercise bike, rowing machine and many other forms of gym equipment in my garage that I never use!! My prob is I have no motivation to go in there!

I decided to have a chat to my OH about how I was feeling and we have decided to go for a run around our close every night of the week first to see how I get on plus Im saving more money for the little one ( when the time comes ) by not paying for a gym membership.

You could always sell some of the gym stuff you dont use and put it towards your baby fund! :winkwink:

Me and my hubby did... we joined in Feb. after finding out he had to lose about 100 lbs before he could be have the kidney transplant he needs. So far he has lost 40 lbs and I have only lost 15. It has really helped me mentally (taking my mind off of being so obsessed with TTC) and I feel LOADS better physically! And we do it together! The only downside is we are both so tired at night when we get home that we don't much feel like DTD when needed! Good luck! ;)

I joined the gym a few weeks ago hoping that getting fit and lose some weight would help towards the bfp and would take my mind off it a bit. I was told to take it easy and not do intensive work out after ov though. I love zumba i really enjoy it and i already lost a few pounds. I was told at the gym when i joined that if i get pregnant i can freeze my membership for a year and start again. But i think i might still go and have gentle exercise.

I totally feel you on the work sch. too! I work 8 hrs a day, 6 days a week... I get home at 5, change clothes, go to the gym, get home at 7, eat a lean cusine and go to bed! We tend to go 4-6 days a week to work out. I usually work out on the cross country machine for 30 min., stomach crunch machine x150, lat bar pull down x100 and leg squat machine x50. Whew! I'm tired just listing all of it and dreading going tonight! LOL!

Blimey hun thats alot!! No wondering you are knackered every night! Do you really need to go the gym that often? And dont forget that sex is great exercise too :winkwink: x

Probably not, but I do it just to keep myself from falling deeper into depression and to keep my mind occupied...

i'm at a gym and i dont see why you would want to give up your membership if you fall pregnant, thats the best time to use it that way you don't put on to much weight and your still keeping fit plus its good for yourself and the baby, i go the gym 4 times a week and will continue to do so once i'm pregnant, there is nothing your not ment to do, you can still do everything there but obviously take it bit more easier and don't push yourself

I'm thinking about joining the gym as well. I play tennis and take my dogs for walks... but it's just not cutting it anymore. Plus when I was actively going to the gym I'd see pregnant women in there all the time on the treadmill, in the pool, or even doing very light weights. As long as you don't over do yourself I think it's actually good for you and the baby :)
