i too prefer jude, sorry you asked

i'm sure no one meant to upset you, i think they mean they are not a fan of ralph if i'm honest :D

either way, you must choose what you prefer for your baby honey :D i no my daughter was nearly regan but i preferred maddilynne :D

I really like Ralph :)

I agree sometimes on the baby forums people are so negtive about names I know from my own threads. If you really don't like a name don't comment on the thread simple :). When I liked the name Pixie soo many people posted really quite nasty comments about how it was a ridiculous name, it was really uncalled for.

If someones posted a thread about names they like, you can kind of guarantee they like the names so be nice! xxx

i know everyone's entitled to their own opinion but i ask how you ladies would like it if you asked people their favorite out of 2 names that you have painstakingly chosen for your darling unborn child to have people tell you flat out they 'are not a fan'
Im not saying dont have an opinion but im just not sure its a particularly nice thing to say to someone and i wonder how you would feel if you had that response from other people!!! the saying if you dont have anything nice to say then dont say anything at all springs to mind (especially about something so personal and to someone who as we all know is likely in a pregnant emotional state of mind!)

Trashit - i say go for which ever name you like best ( i get the impression you prefer Ralph) only you know the personality of your baby and only you have to live with the decision, I personally prefer Ralph myself...

Im sure youll choose what ever is best...
xxxx :hugs:

well n my personal opinion saying im not a fan is not exactly what id call horrible saying something to the affect of "thats awful" "yuk i hate it" would be.....saying "im not a fan" is only a way of saying im not a fan of the name but not i hate it or anything like it. if someone wants to ask an opinon on names they have to accept not everyone on the forum is going to like it. So if you find this upsetting id suggest wording the original thread a bit better for example saying "if you dont like these names please dont comment" i think that would be fairer rather than being jumped in for leaving an opinion which is exactly what the thread asks for.

not sure on either think jude is better but your choice at the end of the day.
I've had so many comments on my choice of names before i knew it was a girl my MIL was a complete cow about my boy name! I guess everyone's idea of nice is different haha

I think if you didnt want people to comment if they dont like the names you should have said soo...?

Ali,

i agree and didnt say in anyway that you were being 'horrible' just that as the thread asked a simple 'jude or Ralph'and not for comments or opinions i felt that people could have been more tactful bearing in mind that its such a personal thing to name your child and she had already narrowed it down to these two! im merely saying that you could perhaps have worded the post better as i think the poster could find this upsetting (as would most pregnant ladies!!)
It is fine to not be a fan of either names chosen but in which case is there really a reason to comment or if there is surely a friendlier response could have softened the blow a bit?
Just expressing my opinion (as we are all entitled to)

Trashit - Apologies if i have hijacked your thread and i have misread that you were upset :hugs:

I Wasnt meaning to imply you said i was being horrible but basically you were saying i havnt been nice enough. The reason i said im not a fan of either is because just like you have expressed your opinion on how i replied there...i have expressed mine. I dont think i could have thought of a nicer way of saying i dont like the name maybe i could have said im not keen? maybe that would have sounded better but i thought she was asking for opinions alot of people would get that impression from "what do you think" and i simply wrote what i thought that is after all the whole point of putting the names on a forum and writing what do you think. Theres alot worse ways of saying your not a fan of a name as i mentioned on her thread in 2nd tri i did not say it to upset her. I dont really feel its fair of you to quote me and my "not a fan" when there re other people on this very thread have blunty said i dont like it. Im not going to apologise on this thread for simply putting my opinion which was asked. If she had stated that she only wanted to hear your opinion if you liked the name id see your point a bit better i just cant agree that this wasnt a nice enough way of putting it. I feel like thats splitting hairs so im not going to beat myself up about it. Like i said i went onto her thread in 2nd tri and explained why i wrote that and also apologised. You cant please everyone with the way you put your words especially on a forum when things often come across differently to how they are meant. Id say to my own best friend the very same thing if she asked my opinion on something and i dont see it as something that offence should be taken to...maybe thats just me  like i said not going to beat myself up on it :flower:

Id also like to add after re reading my reply that i see what your saying along the lines of...why say anything if its not nice?

but in a shorter way of explaining why its because...

1) i dont think it wasnt not nice
2) that being the case why arent you saying similar on all the threads on here? theres alot worse said out there on the name forum and this thread wasnt any different to the others? just because she had narrowed it down to 2 as apposed to a list. The bottom line was she asked what we thought.

and thats what i did. Said what i thought. Im only wondering why my reply has been picked on when theres hundreds of much worse replies kicking around.....

its just confusing me that the whole point of pointing this thread on here and asking for opinion is now suddenly wrong to say your not a fan of the name? isnt that the whole point of asking opinions for the good the bad and the ugly?! otherwise state clearly you only want to hear replies if you like the name OR you can go around saying the same thing to everyone whos replied saying there not a fan on all the threads

Sorry Ali i wasnt meaning to single you out in anyway..

i was just saying that 'Sorry im not personally a big fan of either, but only you know your baby's personality' (or something similar) might have been a bit softer thats all, as sometimes short statements about something this personal can be (and obviously have been) misread

i take you at your word though and im sure you meant no offence ....

im not saying on the other threads because other people were not as clearly upset as Trashit (whom i am friends with) was by it..

And i dint just comment on your post i commented on 'the negative comments' you were just the only one who has (repeatedly ) replied

i also now accept that you didnt mean to offend so im sure we can just chalk it up to a misunderstanding x

thats fair enough but i think if you look hard enough there has been a few people who have been upset by the responses they have recieved but isnt that just what happens when you ask opinions? i respect trashit is your friend so would my response be so terrible if she wasnt? would you have even commented? obv not as you havnt on other threads. anyway i apologised for any upset caused to her (not intended of course). think we can leave it there

suits me i dont like having to quote people but feel i need to explain myself hence the several replies :flower:

Wll the reason I started coming here is because at the yahoo!answers forum, people are really nasty about baby names. Although i have only got one answer when i posted here today so i am not sure what to think of this place yet.

Anyway I like your reasoning for Ralph, it'd make a better story than "well we named you jude because everyone prefered it" lol

But remember ralph can be a nickname for puke :/ and kids can be cruel

are my eyes fooling me or has the orginal thread changed a tad! its become a good few lines shorter! i give up on this thread especially if its going to be changed from original statement!

I think you should choose the name that you prefer.

I think that this post has got stupid!!

Trashit - if you didnt want anyone to put negative comments you should have said!! On a forum people will put what they think if asked. I would have replied with the fact i dont like either name but its your choice. but to be honest seeing the way everyone has reacted to Ali saying she didnt like the names (when she wasnt the only one) has put me off wanting to comment on peoples name choices in future. Going into 2nd tri and posting that you have been upset by what has been said in here has just upset people more. And also changing the first post has just upset people more... It was never said in there that you didnt want people to say if they dont like it.

DueMarch2nd - i wouldnt judge the whole forum on this one post. :)

I know we all let our hormones get the best of us sometimes (we are pregnant after all) But maybe one person shouldnt be picked on because the said the same thing as many others?

Lets stick to the Original Post :)

Sorry you were made to feel bad. Im sure that you are just feeling really emotional because the few posts stating they were not fans were really not negative at all. It was just asked for the opinon.....:hugs:

But back to the question... I love the name Ralph :)

I personally prefer Jude although it is up to you and no-one else, so if you like Ralph, you call him Ralph :D

I like both names but personally prefer Jude.

Jude reminds me of a soft-spoken sweetheart, whereas Ralph reminds me of someone big and protective!

But obviously go with the one you like the best.
