Hi, im jumping the gun a bit but did you OH ask your fathers permison to marry you?

If he did, did he do it before he asked you or after and how did he do it?

I was telling my Grandma what OH has been hinting and she said id hae to get OH to ask my dads permision when we go down in november because my dad is rather traditional in that way.

Thanks

My OH didn't but he was very apologetic on the phone when I called my parents the following day (OH proposed very late in the evening and my parents always assume the worst when the get late night phone calls!!)!! My dad's not particularly traditional that way but OH is! He wasn't planning on proposing when he did, mostly as he wasn't expecting a ring in size J1/2 to be in stock at the jewellers, but didn't think he could keep the ring hidden for very long as we were sharing a single room in a shared house at that point!!

Beca

nope! but mum helped james plan how he proposed (as we flew up to Edinburgh), so i suppose she could have raised her objections then

Thanks girls. TBH i dont care if my dad says yes or not, im just telling him to ask out of curtisy.

My OH asked my mum's permission to marry me before he asked me. I thought it was really sweet of him as I can imagine it takes a lot of guts! :D

my OH asked my mum, as my dad lives far away and we don't speak. She also gave him a family ring to give to me

My OH asked my Dad a few weeks before he asked me. I was really shocked he actually did!

My Dh asked my dads permission the day before proposing. Not sure how he did it, apart from 'quickly' as we don't usually spend even 10 minutes apart. So it really was a 'she's in bed watching a tv show at the moment, I've got to ask you an important question' type of conversation.
I was in utter shock that he asked to be honest, as I'm very much not a traditionalist and neither is my dad. Plus with having been together for 6 years at the time I would have thought he'd have known everything was ok =P

But he did, he's a traditionalist. My dad made him ask my mum (just so she'd know) and all of my family knew before he even proposed and I found out. DH still isn't happy about that at all and does sort of hold a grudge against my mum for it as obviously we would have liked to tell family ourselves, and he definitely hadn't planned on me being the last to find out!

I don't care, it was utterly perfect no matter what =)
But just be warned that by asking permission, you run the risk of being the last to know =P

Mine asked my mom! He had to ask her over the phone as he was still across the country, but he was coming up for Christmas and planning to propose then.

Hubby did ask my Dad but I already knew about it, it was just to make the process a little smoother by not ruffling his feathers. We would have gone ahead with or without his blessing but it was easier this way.

My Dad did of course say yes. :)

MY wonderful future hubby asked my papa 2 weeks before he asked me.

I LOVE that he asked my papa before me, it's so traditional and I think really sweet. Of course my papa said yes!

Nope he didnt, he might have asked my mam i think :-s i cant remember He didnt even meet my dad untill charlie was 2 weeks old anyway so ya know!

My OH didn't ask my Dad as far as I know. My Dad was actually telling me the other day, he asked my Grandpa's permission to marry my mum. He said, 'I'd like to ask her to marry me, but thought I'd ask you first' His reply - 'I'm already married'. Haha!

Stan asked my mom and I knew he was going to. He had to do it over the phone though as he was in Canada and she was in Texas of course :)

Yeah my oh asked my dad. We were at my parents house, oh and dad were inside watching the football and me and my mum were in the pool in their garden when my dad came out with a bottle of champagne and side that my oh had just asked for his permission to take my hand! I thought that was so sweet, but that was back in August and he didnt actually get round to asking me untill Nov 3rd so I was like "hurry up, whens this going to happen?" hehe

yeah, OH asked my dad beforehand. He just went out to the garage and asked him.

Alex asked me (very informally) and then asked if he should ask my dad 'permission'... We both agreed he wouldn't really care as he says it's my life and my decision, but we spoke to him anyway. We did it on Skype, I was loitering around and Alex asked how my dad would feel about his daughter getting married.... It went from there. My dad was round his friend's house getting a bit drunk too  So there were more voices and chatting and stuff....Embarrassing!!!

My OH asked my mommy and daddy's permission. He called mom and asked if we could meet and have a dinner together. After a wonderful dinner he sat down with them and asked them if he could marry me and was so sweet my mom tells me. They said yes, as they love him to pieces. I appreciate him doing it, and showing respect to my parents who are so good to us. My ex husband didn't do is and my parents were thrilled he took the time out to think of them.
