My friend needed to rehome this almost 2 year old puppy. (He is small, i think he may be part corgi, part border collie) He is supet sweet, and playful but also a cuddler. This is my first dog since I moved put of my moms 7 years ago! She needed to rehome him asap so I got prepared the past 2 days and adopted him officially today. Am I crazy?! A toddler, a new baby in October and a puppy ahh!

I just hope you know what you're getting into. Speaking from the experience of my husband who has been in rescue groups and his mom is the president of 1 95% of the people who adopt a puppy have no idea what they're getting into. Puppies are a lot of work almost like having a second child.

Good on you for giving a puppy a good home though.

I would also advise kennel training your puppy ASAP. The last thing you want to do is let the puppy run around when you have to leave the home because you'll come back to a total disaster.

possibly crazy but it's craziness that will pay off! once he's settled in yous will be grand...you'll be wondering how you ever waited 7 years to do it!

If he's 2 he should be out of the worst puppy stages. I have a toddler, one on the way and 3 dogs 8, 6 and 1 I love the madness. My dogs keep me sane :)

Well like I said this is *my* first dog since I moved out of my moms 7 years ago, but before than I grew up with dogs and puppies my whole life :) so i kinda know what i am getting into. I just have always had dogs that my mom wad the primary care taker. He is potty trained, and he doesnt chew on things other than his bones. Originally when were talking about getting a dog, we were talking about getting an older dog. The only reason i got this puppy is because his owner, my friend, says he is very well behaved, and already trained. The only issue i am seeing is that he has something going on where his hair is falling out on his butt. They told me its a separation anxiety thing. But this dog is itchy! I checked him for fleas, no fleas. I am thinking its a food allergy so i will have to try and keep my toddler from giving him food, and I am going to try him on a lamb and rice dog food and see of that helps. I got some tips from my mom on it lol luckily she lives close and can give me tips. I'll be taking him to the vet this week to give him a full check out.
I just think i am probably nuts for adopting my first dog right before i have my second baby and a toddler 😂

But i am thinking it will pay off, as he becomes apart of our family :)

Not nuts at all I had a corgi/border collie cross for a year. He passed away in a farm accident but a lovely friendly dog. Good luck and not crazy

Thank you cowgirl! I'll post a pic of him and you can tell me if he looks like a corgi border collie! Thats what I think he looks like.

This was Baxter :) I brought him home from college with me. He was a bit odd looking but a lover. I love dogs and currently have a 6 year old border collie and three year old shih tzu cross.

I definitely wouldn't say 2 years old is a puppy! Definitely should be past the puppy stage.

We have a cat & two dogs that are all 3 years old, a 9 month old DD and a baby boy due in 16 weeks.

You can do it :)

I could totally be wrong lol i am just guessing because he looks just like a pint size border collie with super stubby short legs!

I guess you ladies are right! He isn't much of a puppy anymore. I was totally expecting a puppy but so far he just chills on the couch and then plays every once in awhile. Who knows how he will act in a week though, this is just his first day. I guess i was just expecting more of a puppy because my mom has a cocker spaniel the exact same age and that dog is CRAZY lol

He could be or maybe a border collie mini Aussie? He looks like a great dog though.

I don't think your crazy. I have two dogs who I absolutely adore and your lo can grow up around furry friend too.

You have a little while for him to settle in. All will be fine. Enjoy!!

Pics are very cute by the way x

He looks like he could be crossed with a Shetland sheepdog? I had a Shetland sheepdog and he had the kindest temperament! 2 years old and trained isn't crazy at all. A real young puppy would be hard work and we wouldn't be able to cope with one!

Defo not a puppy at two but he's adorable!! If you feel up to a dog and children then go for it. I'm a dog trainer, we have dogs and my children have grown up around them. It's great for children to be around pets, teaches them how to be responsible around animals from a young age. At two he/she shouldn't be too much trouble, should be potty trained, socialised, leash trained etc. if not I'd recommend getting a good trainer or doggy classes. Can be a little harder to train an older dog yourself. With the hair loss most doggy alopecia is caused by parasites so possibly try a good anti parasite shampoo, if it doesn't improve your vet can take a few samples to see what's going on. Our pooch suffers from hair loss but his is a pollen/grass allergy. Good luck though and enjoy your new family member!

We're in a similar position, I have a toddler, due second baby in October, and we now have an 8 week old puppy who just came home with us this week. It is like having a new baby already, he is quite well behaved so far really, but he cries from quite early in the morning for various reasons, thought I had a while yet before being woken up at silly hours again! It wasn't planned this way, it was my DH who has always wanted a dog and been nagging me for the last 7 years, and I only finally agreed as we went through three losses and I was convinced we wouldn't be able to have any more babies, and felt guilty that it was me stopping him having a dog and then another baby, so I gave in over the dog, and now I'm over 17 weeks pregnant.
I'm constantly being told I must be crazy and will have my hands full etc, but I'm hoping the puppy will be well on the way to being trained and well settled in by the time the new baby arrives, and at least I'll be home a lot to be able to look after him properly rather than being at work a lot. We thought it would be good for our toddler to have a furry friend but she seems very jealous of him, so it's like a little taste of what life may be like with her when the new baby arrives too!

Being two he definitely isn't a puppy anymore so that's the good thing!! As long as he's potty trained, sleeps well, doesn't have anxiety problems I think you'll be able to manage. Only thing he'll need lots of his probably the grooming so I think you'll be fine really!

You can do this! By the time the baby has arrived you can have the puppy pretty trained if you work well with him now! Also i really hope your husband is helping a lot since he was the one that wanted him initially!

Update: You ladies are right, he actually isnt a puppy anymore! I havent been around dogs in awhile, so i kind of forgot, plus his last owner kept saying "puppy" so i was expecting more of a puppy. And my moms cocker spaniel is the same exact age and he is WACKO lol he definitely still acts like a puppy and he is very very hyper. I feel really blessed, so far this dog is super chilled out, and just likes to snuggle and play every once in awhile. Only issue is he is miserable with itching and hair loss so i bought him some minimal ingredient food yesterday and taking him to vet on Thursday
