So, I've been having pains and stuff lately as you all probably know already. This morning it was so bad it was making me sick. My whole body kept tensing. I went to the NHS Walk-in center and after testing me for kidney problems and water infections there wasn't much else they could do. They gave me a number and when I got home the pains got seriously bad so I rang the number and they put me through to the DELIVERY SUITE! Well, everything is fine, bump has hiccups but the heartbeat was amazing (first time I heard it.) BUT, oh my god! Anyone had their cervix checked?! Jesus christ! I cannot believe how much that hurt. I wanted to throttle the woman. I feel so sick now, and the pains are still there but having been checked over I'm a hell of alot calmer. The woman just kept saying "stop tensing, stop tensing!" I was like "I'll stop tensing when you stop hurting me!" I was getting rude but seriousy I didn't expect it to hurt THAT MUCH! Glad bumps O.K. though obviously :cloud9:

glad you and the baby are ok :hugs:. just thinking about having a cervix check makes me feel tense  thats a no-no zone :p

i wouldnt like that i dont even like having a smear well done you for not kicking her lol

Glad to hear that everything is ok. Though it's not cool that it hurt so much. Hugs

Glad to hear everything is ok. It hurts SO BAD when they check your cervix. I was on the verge of tears! Take it easy for a while. =)

:hugs:

Glad everything is ok hon. It must have been scary :hugs:

I'm so not looking forward to getting my cervix checked, its so painful when you're in labor .

The doctors use their fingers and check your cervix to see if its thinning or dialating. Later on when you get closer to your due date they will do one. It just hurts because of the increased blood flow to the cervix, which makes it tender.

The cervix can be quite sensitive for many women. If you've ever had a routine pelvic exam (pap smear) the doc will take a q-tip and gently swipe the cervix to collect cell samples for testing. That can often be felt and it may cause some dull cramping or aching for a few hours.

Also if DH or OH "runs into" it during BD'ing, it can get quite painful for some.

The procedure is exactly as Jenny said, it's the doc or nurse checking the cervix itself for its effacement and dilation.

The key to this procedure (to minimize pain) is to really stay relaxed. The pelvic floor muscles and birth canal can tense up and really make it difficult for the health care professional to locate and judge the cervix. They have to exert more pressure and often can't be as gentle because the patient isn't relaxed.

I always try to remember they don't like having their hand up my hoo hoo any more than I like their hand being there. Just take a deep breath, think of your baby and relax. It's over in a heartbeat.:cloud9:

Are some of you saying it even hurts your cervix when you are in labour and they check how dilated you are? because it didn't hurt for me at all.. saying that, I was already in so much pain so a bit more wouldn't have made a difference.

Ditto to that. I really wouldn't have noticed they were doing anything if they hadn't have told me.

That's because in essence the cervix is what is being worked in the early stages of labor, and it already hurts, or is numb from baby's head.

Contractions in part use the baby's head to bear down on the cervix and continue to ripen it, open it, and flatten it for baby's birth.

When I was in labor, the chekcing of my cervix didn't hurt at my cervix, it was the lady who couldn't friggin find my cervix and had her hand up there beyond what was necessary.

Aw thats great news! Glad to hear that you and your lil bump are o.k :hugs:

Yeah that tends to hurt quite a bit lol. I'm glad that everythings ok with momma and baby!

When I went in at 11 weeks the nurse did this thing where she put her hand up there and pressed on my belly to feel my womb. THAT hurt. A lot. And when they tell you not to go to the loo either... ouch :(

pleased everythings ok. Stress can bring on pain too remember, so relax!

xxx

I feel alot better today. I was just extremely shocked at how much it hurt. It was some silver thing she put in there?! I have no idea but when she turned it I could hear it clicking. When she said "you may feel some slight discomfort" I wasn't exactly prepared for what came next. Happy as larry today though. So glad little ones O.K. and I feel so relieved. Thanks for your comments guysss :) x

Im glad I said "um no thank you" at my scan the other day when the lady said "would you like an internal scan to check your cervix, its optional"

Wow didn't know it would be a painful thing..

Has anyone said yes?

They'll have to do it eventually anyway and it's probably not AS BAD as I thought it was at the time. I was just really shocked because I wasn't expecting it to be more than a pinch :|
