I was supposed to be 8 weeks and 5 days today, but when I went for my ultrasound today, the tech said I was reading at 6 weeks and 5 days. I haven't had any bleeding or anything unusual. The heartbeat was good, at 158, but I'm just concerned. I know for a fact that I implanted late (at 14 dpo vs. usual 7-10) so I wouldn't worry about one week's difference at all, but two full weeks? I'm a nervous wreck!

I thought the ultrasound was supposed to make you feel better. The tech changed my due date to May 11, and now I'm just sad because it feels like she erased two entire weeks of pregnancy. I thought I was getting out of the woods as far as miscarriage risks go, and now I'm smack back in the middle of it.

Anybody had something like this happen?

Don't worry. Babies go at their own pace. I've read about people getting "put back" then "moved forward." You heard a strong heartbeat and that's what matters. Congrats!

Is it possible that you just ovulated later than you had thought? I always ovulate late and sure enough, after my ultrasound she knocked me back about a week and 3 days from my previous estimate. But it makes sense because I have a long cycle. It sounds like baby was doing fine other than being a bit more young than you had thought. I don't think I'd worry too much at this point.

It is amazing how you guys can measure to the time what happens in your body...but you gotta remember what happens in there may not tell u right away what is doing..the body will go as it should and sometimes we may miss the signs u know? or things happen later than we think, nothing in life is 100% sure except death and taxes! lol dont get all worry is not good for the baby...to tell you the truth I have no idea when my last period was, not a clue when inplantation may have happened heck I went to my doctor for a check, they asked me when was my last period I said it is coming soon when w/out me knowing I was like 4 weeks pregnant!! lol you have a great heart beat, you are not cramping, you are not bleeding your little one is just that, dont think they took away 2 weeks of pregnancy they gave you 2 more! Hugs :)

I'm absolutely sure of my ovulation date because I had ovulation bleeding and we didn't have sex again until after I missed my period - I was out of town and then he was out of town. However, I am kind of pudgy and they had to do a vaginal ultrasound - she was not gentle, now that I think about it. Maybe that made it hard to get an accurate date? Or maybe the baby is just small - I am pretty small-framed?

I think we'll be ok, it just threw me for a loop. I was expecting this to be an encouraging, positive sign and instead I got mixed signals. I'm just going to have to be patient. I feel discouraged that I have to set my ticker back though.

Hugs mama!!! It could be that for whatever reason you did O late, and fertilzed at the latest possible time? Who knows. Early u/s are very accurate, because all fetuses are the same size, and at the same growth rate in the early weeks of pregnancy. Since your baby's heartbeat was good, I would not worry too much!!! I am sure, and hopeful everything will be fine!! Hugs, and take it easy.

Although I am sure of my ovulation date, I can think of two reasons why it wouldn't measure correctly from my LMP: 1) I ovulate on CD 17 (that takes care of three days) and 2) I didn't implant until 14 dpo (takes care of 1 week to 1 week 1 day?). That only leaves me with a four to five day discrepancy. That still worries me, but not nearly as much as two weeks off worried me. I'm going to call my doctor in the morning and talk to him.

However, that means that I really am only in my sixth week and have to erase two weeks off my progress. Very disappointing, but not nearly as disappointing as being in imminent danger of miscarriage.

I had a scan at 8+3 weeks and they measured me as 7 weeks. The sonographer said not to pay too much attention as it was very difficult to get a proper date at such an early scan and that the dating will be more accurate at 12 weeks. I saw a good strong heartbeat and a smudge on the screen so I was happy at that but I do admit to leaving feeling slightly worried about my smidge measuring a week younger than I thought. But I only have a week and a half to go now for my proper dating scan so I figured there is no point in worrying about it for now xxx

huh? My Obn/Gyn told me the exact opposite. She said early dating scans are more accurate than further along. I asked because I was concerned that my latest ultrasound (14 wks & 1 day) actually put me back to 13 wks & 1 day. My TWO early dating scans on the other hand were very accurate and consistent with each other. The further along you are the greater the discrepancy there is as far as size.

Is there any possibility you have a tilted/tipped/retroverted uterus? Although it's true that for most women early dating scans are fairly accurate, if you have a tilted uterus, that's not the case. In fact, if you read through the site Misdiagnosed Miscarriage, many women with tipped uteruses are wrongly told their baby is measuring way too small (or can't be seen at all at first) and that they're going to miscarry, when actually the ultrasound doesn't allow for an accurate view early on in the pg if the woman has a tipped uterus.

If you know for sure you don't have a tipped uterus, then I'll be honest, since I personally never wanted to be given false hope... it's not a good sign. If I were you, I'd have a follow-up u/s done next week and make sure it's an actual doctor, not a tech, doing the scan, and also ask your doctor about the possibility that the measurement isn't accurate because of a tipped uterus.

ok so you know for sure that you implanted a week later so your real worry is about a week time right? now with both of my boys I was absolutely sure about ovulation and implantation and they both measured a week off and are perfectly fine :)
this time around when I was 7 weeks 3 days the baby measured 7 weeks, I asked her if I should change the due date and the doc said no there is an error of + or - 3 days so I guess what im trying to say is if you consider the 3 day error and the week of late implantation you really are almost on target :)

OMG. I DO have a tilted uterus! That makes me feel a lot better.

I called and talked to my doctor, not the ultrasound tech, and he seemed supremely unconcerned. Said that he was mainly looking for a heartbeat and that since they found that easily, he's not worried. I thank ALL of you, but I'm no longer concerned, just disappointed that I'm going to be carrying this baby longer into May. In the American South, every day later in May is a day closer to hell.

I had an ultrasound at what I thought was 7 weeks and she says I'm less than 5 weeks!
