Can I just show up to one of these meetings? I'm interested in getting involved and there is one that meets at the hospital near my house. Just wasn't sure if I needed to contact a leader in advance.

Also, if anyone's ever been to one, what can I expect?

I've just been to one, here in Saudi. And I have to say it was great. I just emailed the leader before hand to make sure I had time and venue correct. All the ladies were at different stages of BF and it was so good to hear different experiences and to get tips and advice from them. Sure the format is pretty much the same worldwide. :)

I just showed up...................it was great. I have been going for 15 months now

I just showed up - no need to check with leader as day/time/venue the same each week. Our group's format is usually arrive and mingle for about 15-20 mins, then we all introduce ourselves and our babies. The leader then starts the discussion (there's a topic for each week). She shares info / advice / discussion prompts and we all ask / answer questions / share experiences / thoughts etc. Then at the end there's time for more chat and the leader sees anyone who needs 1:1 support or advice. Oh and there's always tea and often cake!

I love our group, great to meet other like minded mums and share experiences with breastfeeding. It's a very relaxed, friendly group and all the mums are at different stages so you get to discuss things with mums who've been through it all already and share your experiences with mums starting out. Lots of mums only seem to come once or twice when they've got a problem which I think is a shame - it's nice to chat to other mums when bfing is going well as well as when it's an issue!

Our local meeting has a facebook page - why not check to see if yours does? x
