For three weeks now Cruz has been on lactose free milk he was in cow and gate but was having sloppy poos wasn't always like this but turned that way they wasn't like water just very mushy dr suggested lactose free milk I wasn't sure but gave it a try hv said as it appeared to help slightly keep him on it and keep him off any lactose foods which one done for past three weeks only I didn't want him not having diary if he didn't need to
My last son had a diary allergy but had obvious symptoms
Anyway so yday he had 1/2 yoghurt around midday he then didn't do a poo wasn't in pain etc he pooped this afternoon it was thick and greenish (he does have a lot of green poops)
My question is surely if he was lactose intolerant symptoms would show up quite fast from what I've read online it's anything from 20 mins to a few hours ! But he was fine he's had another 1/2 yoghurt today so I'll see what's he's like tomorrow I don't want to keep dairy from him if he's fine to have it any advice any knowledge o. Lactose intolerance x

Can't offer much advice on lactose intolerance. My daughter is cows milk protein intolerant but she was extremely constipated as a baby rather than runny poo's. I do believe it can take upto 3 days to see a reaction though with any allergy unless it's a very severe allergy. If the milk is helping your LO then it's likely that there is some kind of allergy there just depends how severe it is. My daughter couldn't tolerate any milk and other things when she was younger but now she is 19 months she can tolerate it in small amounts. I can maybe give her a yogurt say 1-3 times a week just depends what else she has in the mean time. It's all trial and error and you no best, if your child can tolerate half a yogurt then there's no harm in giving it but just be careful how much you do give. You may find if you gave a full yogurt once a day for a few days they might react. Again it's all trial and error and you no best. Good luck. X

Lactose intolerance is extremely rare in babies (more common in adult population). Babies are designed to digest lactose as bm is even higher in it than cows milk/ formula. Temporary lactose intolerance can occur after really bad stomach bugs etc, but should only last a few weeks.

In the rare instance a baby is lactose intolerant it will be very obvious very early, failure to thrive and very unwell, as before weaning they are unable to digest their only food source.

CMPA is far more likely, especially if reactions seem delayed and also given that you have another child with cmpa.

Well yeh i knew lactose intolerant was very Rare
and we did trial nutramegin as he suffered eczema
That's under control now tho only had a flare up now and then and easily clears up
He has no other symptoms of a allergy tho my last boy had colic reflux mucusy poops cried a lot!
Cruz is a happy content baby yeh has eczema which ino can occur from an allergy but it's not bad and under control
He doesn't suffer constipation
His poops were normal every other day or so it was changing his milk that first started the sloppy poops
They weren't like water they were just quite sloppy and he was a bit windy from the bottom that's it
My other boys did have a tummy bug a while back to so maybe that upset his tummy and caused the temporary lactose intolerance
He can't have an allergy has the lactose free milk still has the proteins in it so he would still be having problems with that and isn't
He had a bit of yoghurt yday and day before he had a poo yday afternoon was thick and normal was slight green but his poops sometimes am green the dietician said she doesn't worry about green poos
I just don't no what to do I don't want him missing out on lovely foods with diary in if he don't need to it was hard work weaning my last son who grew out of it by 2sjppose I'll just have to see how he goes X

If lactose free is working then go with it. You are the expert in your baby. Maybe it will end up being a short term thing from something upsetting his system.

I fully sympathise with what a pain dairy free weaning can be so hopefully that won't be needed for your little man.

It maybe like pp suggested that it is a mild cmpa and he tolerate a certain amount of milk but is occasionally getting overloaded. Formula milk is not the top of the milk ladder and yoghurt is lower than formula. I assume you started weaning recently? Has maybe just started having bits of plain old uncooked cows milk? On cereal perhaps?

Whatever is going on I hope you find what's works for him x

He hasn't had any cows milk in cooking just yet yeh I will see how he goes I'm going to continue in giving bits of diary if I notice a reaction I'll defo stop
I personally think he's fine tho we will see what happens I'll leave him on the lactose free forumla X

Dont stress about green poos. All formula fed babies have green poo due to iron in formula. Hope you work it all out.

Both of mine were reflux and the lactose free milk and gaviscon did the trick for them.

Maybe they found it easier to digest or something?

If it works for you, stick with it x
