I gave birth last Friday and had to have one. I am in so much pain and part of the stitches opened up somehow so the doctor cleaned it and prescribed antibiotics and will check it again in a week. But I keep bleeding from the cut.. I know your suppose to bleed from inside for awhile but this bleeding is further down...And it looks like the cut is open...I don't know how it is suppose to look down there just wondering if anyone has any advice.. Thanks..

I had an episiotomy and ended up at the doctors due to the stitches having split. I have just been told to keep the area clean - lots of baths (just water only), keep the area dry (using a hair dryer but be careful not to apply too much heat) and avoid doing too much (don't sit awkwardly on the stitches). Having said that LO doesn't allow me much time for baths, it is tricky keeping the area dry when you are bleeding and a LO means you cannot really avoid doing too much. At least being on antibiotics will keep infection away and help you heal. I would say just keep getting followed up at the doctors to make sure you are healing ok.

This happened to me too. I showed the midwife when she visited and she referred me to a doctor. Was prescribed antibiotics and told to keep area clean to avoid further infection. Also as hard as it is with a new baby try to rest and not put too much pressure when sitting and I guess go backfor them to check. Mine healed on their own but was uncomfortable for a while

I had an episiotomy on thursday and apart from being really sore I think they are healing up. I've been told that a few drops of lavender oil in a warm (plain) bath helps to speed up the healing process so I bought some today. Hope your feeling better soon x

That happened with me too and when I went back for my check up at 6 weeks the doc took a look and told me that I had a piece of skin that hadn't healed correctly and he put something on it to basically "burn" that part of skin off. After that I didn't have any other problems with it. It just didn't look right when I was checking as to why I kept bleeding every time I wiped.

So you all also had an opening? Did it heal and close up on its own? Mine is like an open wound..I really don't want it to be like this forever :( I've been taking about 1-2 baths a day and trying to keep the area clean...

Mine finally healed after the doctor put something on it that burned the skin a bit which caused a piece of skin to come off. I can't remember what it was that he had used at the time. It's been over 9 years. Hopefully it heals for you soon!! I'd call the doc office back again to ask them.

I saw the doctor again and she said it looks like it is healing up well and just continue doing what I'm doing..keeping it clean, baths..but there is still a big opening! And bleeds bright red throughout the day! She says it will close up on its own I would almost rather get the stitches again then have this opening! Ugh :(

I had this with my first. You may find 2 courses of antibios do the trick. Might take a while.. Also drs told me to use Babedas bath gel it has a natural horsechestnut antibiotic but I was worried about getting thrush using it so stuck to what Midwifes said milk and lavender oil in bath. The milk disperses it into the water as I didn't have a base oil (or something). I found milk n lavender v soothing. Not baby milk ha ha!! X

I had an epis when I had my son almost 4 weeks ago and fortunately seem to be healing well. I was advised to pour warm water over the area when/after peeing, rinses the urine and blood away as well as easing any pain. I then pat dry with a piece of kitchen towel or a small towel. xx

I have been having it checked every week ..it seems to be healing slowly but there is still about it 1-2 inch opening that hasn't healed yet! I will be seeing a specialist next week to see if they will want to re-stich or just continue with it healing on its own. I just want this to be done with and be back to normal! It's uncomfortable! :(

I had a baby feb 2012 and my stitches all fell out and I was wide open and kept bleeding , basically I was told to grin and bear it , it stung 4 a while but it has eventually healed altho it don't look quite like it use to. If its stinging when u wee, I'd suggest tipping a jug of warm water onto u while u wee that helped me x

My stitches came apart (i didnt relax i was running around making sure all my visitors were happy :dohh:) and i was in so much pain, they gave me antibiotics and i had paracetamol. Took about 1 lot of antibiotics

You'll be fine. The pain will stop in time and while you may not go back to looking exactly like you did before, you won't be left with a big gaping wound forever either. It'll feel just the same as it did before too. I had an episiotomy when I had my daughter 8 months ago, and while it took absolute ages to heal, I'd say I'm back to normal now and have been since about 4 months pp.

Just take it as easy as you can. Don't rush back into having sex, but when you do, make sure to use lots and lots of lube and stop if you feel any discomfort.

I had one last week and was told by my ob/gyn to take up to 3 baths a day in warm water with a handful of course salt to help dry the wound out. It seems to be healing really well. He also has me on a course of antibiotics too. Hope it heals soon. X

I second drying with hair rdryer on cool setting, and not doing lots. Sit with pressure off the area.

Ugh i was cut to my butt! :( he stitched me up but the stitches split just below my vagina hole so i had like two holes for a dew weeks..i went in for my pp checkup and hes like...well one part didnt heal so either have sex w hubby and have him rip it for u or i am going to have to do it myself :(. Needless to say hubby did it and it wasnt pretty :( it hasnt changed how i feel down there though says my husband, and hes pretty honest w me when it comes to that stuff.

I am now 9 weeks pp and the opening has healed up almost ...but there is still a small opening maybe about 1cm that hasn't closed yet...I have been taking 2 sitz baths a day, using blow dryer to keep dry and sleeping with nothing on to air it out. Next week I have an apt with the Urogyn. To see the progress and decide if I want to get the Episotomy revision surgery. Which I am hoping I don't have to bc of my heart conditon I would have to do it awake with local anesthesia..and that may be really painful! Plus waiting for stitches to heal again! Ugh! :( So, I'm really hoping it will just heal on its own! Has anyone that has went through issues with their Episotomy healing on its own versus stitches noticed a difference in sex? Do you think it would be looser?

Def noticed a difference with sex... feel much tighter down there now, which is a problem... was kind of difficult before...
