Had my first appointment with FS today and he was really positive. He feels due to our age and time trying we need to crack on with IVF. We get two goes in Somerset, which am really chuffed with. Anyway he has booked me in for the lap and dye this Friday as there was a cancellation so all a bit of a whirlwind. I phoned my boss who is off sick at the moment and he is unsure as to whether his boss will give me the time off and that i might need to take it as holiday which i have none left of unfortunately. Can anyone else who has had this tell me what their work allowed in terms of time off, sick pay etc...

As it is investagative and due to infertility and not something life threatening I am concerned they might be difficult.

Thanks in advance!

hmm i'm not sure where you stand work wise. I'm doubtful they'd have to let you have the time off. Maybe check CAb out or speak to your HR dept if you have one?

I've got my lap and dye next monday and work said i could take the time as holiday or take SSP.

Good luck hope you get it sorted out xx

Hi

I am happy to borrow holiday from next year, just hoping they will let me take the time.

Its for medical purposes so they have to allow you the time even if they only pay you statutory sick pay. The nurses can provide you with a sick note if you need it.

Just phone in sick. I only missed two days work when I had lap and dye. You are having it on Friday so you could even go in on Monday. It's not that bad. Depends on you yourself but I was okay to go into work a couple of days after it.

Hi, I just told work I had to have an operation and that I would be off sick for 4 days (had the op on a Tuesday and had the rest of the week off). I was asked what the op was for and I told them 'women’s problems' they asked no more questions. If you haven't already told them I would not say what the operation is exactly - they do not need to know and you should be able to self certificate for up to 7 days if you live in the UK - my thinking was that lots of people where I work have a week off sick here and there for colds, but this is an operation and it is required for a reason – if they can have paid time off for a cold then we can have paid time off for this.

If you can, tell them you will be off sick and hopefully they will not ask any questions.

Good luck :hugs: xx

i second what carebear said - you're more than entitiled to the time off as it's an operation and you're not supposed to go back to work within 48 hours (if not longer?) due to the anaesthetic still being in your system.

when i had my lap and dye, i had two weeks full pay off (one week for R&R and one week due to unforeseen infection - don't worry, the infection isn't standard!!!) and i just told work is was an exploratory op that had been recommended 'under my consultant' - they didn't ask what exactly it was for.

You have every right to have this op done hun, and you shouldn't have to use your holiday for it - your boss is currently off sick....did their boss authorise that one???!!!!

Good luck with the lap and dye hun, thinking of you x x x x

Phew, just spoke to the director at work and she was lovely and has no problem with me taking the time off. Thanks for all your messages! I feel a lot better now.

Hi Brambletess, we also had our first FS appt yesterday and I have also to have lap & dye but won't be for around another 6 weeks. I am worrying already so you are lucky that you don't have time to think about it! I have phoned work to advise them as I am a nurse and was told to take at least a week off so wanted to give them plenty of warning.

How long have you been trying??
xx

i have been ttc for 6 years and i have had every fetility test under the sun some very painful investigations aswell!!! i lost my 1st baby 13 months ago and i have not conceived again as of yet xxx

brambletess am glad u got that sorted, i had mine a couple weeks ago and took it as sick, work were really good and told me to take as much time as needed, i was advised to take the week off ( am a nurse ) and am glad i did, not so much because of pain etc but i was feeling strange lol ( think it was the anasthetic ) good luck with it and take as much time as u need to rest afterwards.:hugs:

ps, the 2 tries with ivf is that everywhere in somerset do you know?

Bonfloss - I was just lucky in that there was a cancellation. You are right, I have less time to worry about it, which is great, but it does mean i will have to wait much longer than normal to see the consultant to find out the results. So I have not totally ecaped the inevitable waiting we are all subjected to!

I have been TTC for 2 years and 6 months. I am 36. Nothing wrong with my ovulating and partners sperm is okish, low morphology but high count and motility. I have had past chlamydia infection (only found this out a couple of months agao!)so risk of damage in tubes is greater. Thanks for asking. Whats your story story??

danni0509 - have they ever recommended IVF as 6 years is a long time? So sorry to hear about MC.

Woodsey - thanks for the message! glad to hear yours went ok. If you live in the area below (see link) then you will be in the same pct area as me. Bath & North East Somerset are different.

Some friends of ours also in Somerset PCT are having donor sperm ivf and they have been offered three goes! but my consultant told me (on Monday) it would be two goes.
