Hi Ladies,

I have been ttc for 13 months. I've done basic tests like prolactin, fsh and just had progesterone tested today. Everything has turned out normal (don't have progesterone back yet, but everything else is normal). Husband has had SA; slightly low with 23 million; but also has some abnormal shaped sperm which doctor said drop his count even lower (not sure exactly how low?) He is going to a urologist this week to discuss that. (any tips about that from you ladies in the meantime?)

My question is...my doctor recommended scheduling a laparascopy so that . I have not had an HSG. In y'alls "unprofessional" experience..is that normal? Laparascopy seems like a pretty invasive procedure for someone who has regular cycles, and no symptoms of endo (i know you don't have to have symptoms to have endo; but just generally speaking).. Wouldn't it make sense to do HSG first? the only reason I am concerned is bc it's surgery, and will be expensive.. its not like im just having a tooth pulled!

Please let me know your advice!

If you are not comfortable with it try asking your dr their reasoning behind it and suggest/ask why they don't recommend an HSG first. I don't have any advice otherwise as my dr has never recommended it to me but I did have a laparotomy to have a huge cyst removed at the beginning ttc so maybe my dr didn't need to have "another look around".Best of luck to you :)

Personally, I've had all the tests but they haven't even said I should have a lap. I would wait till after an HSG if at all. It sounds like you're most likely stuggling bc of male factor. Track your cycles and then get him to "save up" for a few days before your fertile time. Vitamins seem to help some guys as well.

Thanks for the info ladies. I'm not crazy about the idea bc it's surgery just to check that there are no "structural" problems... Couldn't that be figured by a hsg?

I had a lap and dye test. Doc wanted to check all was ok. On NHS so no cost issue. But sometimes people have know to fall pregnant after this test as the dye test flushes and minor blocks. Not in my case :-( but in some.

Personally I wish that I'd had a lap done straight away, I'd had a hycosy which showed everything was working normally, but it wasn't until I had a lap done that they realised what I mess I was with severe endo. My husband also had poor sperm count/motility/morphology but they never bothered doing anything about him. I conceived my daughter a couple of months after the lap x

Hi, I had a lap after 2nd appointment with FS as a scan showed a cyst and from symptoms thoight could be endo as very painful and irregular periods. They done a lap, hsg and hysteroscopy in one and everything was absolutley fine. I would say go for the lap as there are things that can only be seen and treated by a lap such as endo and if you end up needing a lap after all you wont have to do hsg first which i dont know as in uk so on nhs but could cost you more doing both?

Good luck to you xx

also my dh has had 4 sa's ranging from 13-84mil and varying morphology so some are a lot better than others, lots of vitamins help if you research on here theres so much information x
