Hi there
My husband and I are about 2 and a half years down the road of trying for a baby. My consultant said that it might be worth having a lap and dye, as this s one of the last tests we could do, and nothing else was showing up except for having a short luteal phase and perhaps not very strong ovulation - she is not especially worried by either of these things though.
Anyway, really I just wanted to post to put people's minds at rest. I had the operation on Thursday and it is now Sunday morning. I had an incision in the belly button and one lower down just above pubic mound. Both very neat and small. It did feel very sore the first day, and getting up down was a struggle, but to be honest I think the after effects of general anaesthetic were the least pleasant. Second day I still wasn't too great, but certainly not bedbound, and could manage stairs and carrying drinks etc. Managed a shower and drying my hair on third day. The fourth day - today - I managed to get up out of bed quite easily, without doing a weird kind of roll to get out. I have not felt pain this morning, but still not managing to bend to floor.
So, all in all, pretty good! They didn't have to fix anything inside (absolutely nothing unpleasant or interesting found, despite mild suspicion of endo). I appreciate if they have to do something more major once inside, then this would certainly complicate things. However, I thought it would be helpful to let people know what a totally routing lap and dye was like, as I was pretty nervous after reading some horror stories.
Oh, and I had about an hour of the shoulder pain on the first day - definitely not as stabbing and horrid as many described. However, my abdomen is still massively distended - I look a bit pregnant ironically! So maybe the gas has not shifted in my body the way it does with many people.
Hope that gives people some relief. X
