I know that there are lots of threads on this already but i have had a letter this morning telling me that i have been put on the waiting list for a Laparoscopy eeek! This is because of my concerns due to the fact that i have had an infection in the past. :nope:

I have been googling the procedure and it looks really scary!! Im so worried it will go wrong and does anyone know how much recovery time you need? Also what is the average waiting time for the op?

Anyone who has had this or due to have this i would be very grateful to here from you. :hugs:

Try not to worry chicken, it's fine. I totally understand how you feel, I was TERRIFIED! (it was the anaesthetic that freaked me rather than the op)
Even on the morning of mine, I had talked myself out of it, but then just packed my bag, told my mum, hopped in a taxi on my own, & went to the hosp.

I can honestly say I wish I'd had it done years ago. I sat on the fence for almost 8 years TTC with never a sniff of a bfp & struggled with heavy periods & mid cycle/random heavy spotting & stabby pains. Turned out after the lap that I had endo, a lot of which was removed at the time, but I'd ignored things for so long, the endo has screwed my tubes. :nope:

The waiting list here (B'ham) was only 6 weeks which was impressive. I was on the afternoon schedule, so had to be at the hosp for 1pm, luckily I was one of the first taken down, everyone was so nice to this blubbering 34 yr old & they couldn't have done more to be nice & reassure me.
I remember coming round in the recovery room & felt so calm & relaxed (morphine ha ha), I don't remember being put back in my bed on the ward, but I slept the afternoon away & they let DH collect me at 9pm. The Doc came to see me before I went home, but just told me the basics & said he'd see me in his clinic to explain further in SIX WEEKS! That was the worse of the two waits.

Regards recovery time, I just took that day & the next day off work & went back on the wed. I've got my own business though & if I had a 'proper job' with sick pay I would have took the week!

Please don't worry & STOP googling for info on the procedure - operation details & pictures will always look scary to those of us who aren't medics/nurses etc..

Thanks so much...im very scared but i WILL have it done if thats what the doctor wants. The mains thing is i will finally find out one way or another if there is something wrong so pychologically it will be a good thing too. I read one woman had the procedure and afterwards conceived twins!!! Who knows?! Thanks for sharing your experience with me hun...much appreciated. xxx

Hey honey,

I had a lap 2 and a half weeks ago. My last stitch has just fallen out tonight.

Mine was because of pain, I had PID (pelvic imflamatory disease) 2 years ago after my MC.

They also did a dye test whilst in there. My left tube is blocked and my left ovary is covered in a film of scar tissue.

I got my results same day (they even showed me pictures) and have a follow up appointment in December.

I was terrified as I had had a bad past experience with general anastetic.

Everything went fine, I was out the same day & back at work 4 days after.

Wish you all the luck in the world and dont worry about it too much.

xxx

Thank you hun, the letter said they would put the dye through while i was asleep. Am i right in thinking that if they come across problems like scar tissue...they are able to do something then and there or do they do something at a later date?

Also how long recovery time did you have...i suppose it varies depending on the pain that you are in?

It was the gas pains in my shoulders that were the worst. They went on the 4th day though (peppermint water helped with this). It hurt to bend down I was just careful for a week or so but my job is desk based so I could get away with going back to work quickly.

I unluckily got an infection in my stitches in my belly button and have just finished a course of antibiotics for it.

They didnt do anything to me just exploratory. They wont remove anything without your conscent. My pain is caused by my scar tissue and to remove it they would have to take my tube and ovary (not that my tube on that side is much use anyways).

I just have to see how I go on till decemember when we are going to be properly TTC... just NTNP at the moment.

I was a bit wierded out when I went for my 1st wee after op and i wiped and everything was blue then I realised it was the dye! Lol.

Hope that helps.

Anymore questions feel free to ask.

Hi MrsRm....it's really nothing to worry about. I had mine in February and my doctor was able to clear up some adhesions that had formed after surgery I had in 2008. The pain was also not too unbearable. I took about 3 day off work, but by day 4, I was fine.

Good luck
