Hi Girls,

I would like to ask if there is anyone here who had a laparoscopy in the past. I got pregnant twice before, but sadly lost both babies at around 6-7 weeks. It has now been 17 months since and nothing. They've run all the blood tests on me and test on my husband, but everything seems to be absolutely fine. When we saw the fertility specialist a month ago, he suggested I should have a laparoscopy, because I had 2 m/c and because of my age (32). I have just started acupunture recently and I've had 3 sessions so far, weekly. I'm a little hesitant as to whether to go for it now, (the appt is end of this Oct), or postpone it for couple of months while I am doing the acupunture and hope that something might happen naturally without an invasive treatment. Specialist would not put me on Chlomid until I've done the laparoscopy either. What is your experience with laparoscopy? Do you think it is worth to have it?
Thanks a lot. You're the best!
:confused:
THANKS A LOT!!!

I had a lap in June of this year. I haven't actually seen the benefits of it so far (even though i did give me a period after only 36 days which is brilliant as I have very long cycles usually) and it did confirm that my tubes were clear and except for several cysts in there everything was ok :) I did request photos afterwards to see what my system looked like :)

it may be worth having it sooner rather than later (although I am not sure of what waiting list times are like where you are) as apparently you do have a "five month fertile window" after you have it done, although I myself am still not pregnant.

It isnt really invasive, you will only have a few very small scars and you will be able to resume normal activity after a week or so. If you need more description I posted something more descriptive in an earlier post by Hays.

Its one step closer to finding out why you are not pregnant though so well worth doing and getting it out the way ;)

good luck !!

ditto trickytrouble, it will be worth it hun just as an MOT, im due one soon and i want it for piece of mind

Hi Hun, I had a laparoscopy in Oct 07 and didnt find it too painful after a few days. They didnt suggest anything was wrong just thought it was worth a shot as I had been having a niggling pain my in right ovary. Went ahead and they removed many tiny cysts and then 'bang' I convinced in Dec 07 totally unexpectedly and due in 22 days!!

I would go for it... you have nothing to lose... and I have one tiny scar to my left of belly button and a scar in my belly button.

xxxx

I've had 2 laps and am booked in for a 3rd one end of next week. Its not a nice thing to go through but it will either 1. give you peace of mind that everything is ok or 2. treat anything that may be a problem.

You'll most likely be sore for a week and its common to have gas pains in your shoulders as part of the procedure is to pump your belly full of gas so they can better see your organs.

They will check for things such as endo, uterine abnormalities, cysts, blocked tubes etc.

To be on the safe side, IMO it would be best to have the lap done incase there is a prob that is causing your m/c's, something that accupuncture can't fix for example.

Best of luck to you.

your lucky that your consultant is saying that he wants to do lap before clomid. My consultant just stuck me on clomid(been on it for 6 months now) and refused point blank to do a lap!

Girls, thank you so much for your input! It is really helpfull getting a first hand info. I guess this is gonna to be my first surgery of any kind + the idea of anaesthetics is really scaring me. I would have been happier just to go for a dye test. But as you all say, it may give us some more information or a reassurence. Appart from that, I have started spotting before periods for a day or two which I have never done before, which apparently is a sign of endometriosis, but that's just my hypotesis. I just always tought that laparoscopy is done if you have cysts or pain.. whereas I haven't got any visible problems. I had a scan few times and it all looked ok always.
~~~~~Pixileou, I'm sorry your doctor isn't very responsive. There's nothing worse like when you are just pure stack and they don't seem to do anything. My doctor does and still I'm having second thoughts... I really really wanted them to do something and when they did I'm scared and under pressure again.. terrible... never happy, am I? .. I hope Chlomid will do the trick!
~~~~~Donna, Congratulations!!! that's a great news! Success stories are always so inspiring! Thanks!
~~~~~Hays, good luck!!! + FJL, good luck for next week. May I ask why you are having another one?
~~~~~Trickytrouble, the best of luck!!! I really hope it's just round the corner for you now. Actually, I thought it'd be worse with a waiting list. From the point I saw the doctor to lap is 11 weeks. So, I guess, not bad.
THANKS AGAIN TO YOU ALL!

FJL: What was the outcome of your laps hun?xx

Lap #1 was back in 2001 to investigate things because I had extremely painful periods and sex was often painful. They thought I had endo. The results was that I didn't have endo, but they told me I had a bicornuate uterus (heart shaped)

Lap #2 was done by our first FS at the start of this year. He wanted to see if there was anything stopping me from getting pg (besides DH's sperm probs) and did a heap of other stuff too. It came back all clear and he said that I did NOT have a bicornuate uterus.

For numerous reasons, we gave that FS the flick and started seeing another guy in the city. When he was doing my egg collection, he picked up via ultra sound that I had a septate uterus. Septate is a wall of tissue (septum) dividing the uterus. He said that it often goes undetected and you have to be very good to be able to pick it up. With a septate, you have a 75% chance of m/c, stillborn or premmie baby. He also confirmed that I did NOT have a bicornuate uterus even though thats what i'd been told by numerous sonographers and 2 Dr's. I'm so glad i'm with this FS, he is so very talented at what he does.

Sooo....

Lap #3 will be to remove the septum and it will drop those scary rates down to around 6-10%.

As far as a general anaesthetic, my first lap, I was absolutely terrified, I was in tears while I was waiting to be knocked out. I had no idea what to expect and was scared of dying while under, waking up half way through etc. My 2nd one I was a little nervous but ok really and this next one I don't even care!!!

Its normal to be scared hun, and it is scary to be having a GA for the first time, but you will be fine, you can do this :hugs:

hey hun I had a lap a few years ago because of unknown pain everything turned out well for me and it really is only a small op take care of yourself and I hope everything goes well for you:hugs::hugs::hugs:

Hello

I had a lap about 6 years ago, and yes, the anaesthetic was the most scary bit for me too! But the staff were great and really looked after me, so don't panic - you'll be fine. Plus, better to know what's going on inside for definite rather than guessing?

Good luck x

Aevenstar, Heather, thank you so much for words of encouragment! I still have 2 cycles before the op, so either some miracle happen or we'll just have more answers..

FJL: I'm sorry you've been misled before, but it looks like you are in a very good hands now. Thank you so much for your info and I hope that all our dreams will come true!

Getting a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy done on 9/17 to remove some scar tissue that was found on my HSG. Good luck to all the gals that will be having this done.

I thought I would chime in b/c I posted something similar a month or so ago. As you can see my from my siggy below, DH & I have unexplained infertility and have had 2 unsuccessful IUIs. My RE said my next step I had 2 options and it was up to me which one to choose. My options were: get a lap OR add Follistim inj to Femara/Trigger/IUI. After doing some research and talking with my nurse & some of these ladies, I have chosen to go with the lap. My laparoscopy and hystercomy is scheduled for Sept 9th. I am very satisfied with the decision to go with the lap. I hope they find something and will fix/remove it.

Anyway, just wanted to share my story with you. I just wanted to wish you the best of luck in whatever you choose to do!!
