Hello ladies

Well if you read my thread you all know that after a recent HSG test confirmed that both my tubes are blocked. Very devastating news. My gyne told me that the good news is I still can get pregnant BUT with some help. He gave me 2 options on how to get pregnant.

1. Laproscopic surg- to remove my scar tissue and open up my tubes. Then try naturally to get pregnant. May take some time to conceive if my gyne can only open my left tube which isnt as damaged.

2. IVF- My gyne told me that since my only problem concieving is blocked tubes then I am more than likely to get pregnant with one round of IVF.

I'm trying to weigh out my options. Laproscopic may or may not be successful and my insurance will pay for this oupatient procedure. And with IVF its almost a guarantee I will get pregnant, but is expensive.

Should I go with the lap and see what the outcome will be even if it takes months to get pregnant or should I start saving for IVF??

anyone with success stories after a lap?? I am leaning toward having the lap done. Anyone with severe damage to their tubes and still got a BFP?? help!!!!!!!!

Hi don't want to put a downer on things but even being a very good candidate for IVF you are still only looking at something like a 40% sucess rate which is good but not a guarantee of sucess. The only problem with the surgery is scaring which can come back plus what's ur risk of an ectopic? I wanted surgery but got refused as too high risk of another ectopic so taking the ivf route but as u say expensive 4k a go. Fingers crossed. For you I'm sure you will get ur bfp one way or another good luck x

If the Lap isn't going to cost any money because it is covered by insurance then I would go for it. You can still have that done and be saving for IVF at the same time.
However with the Lap done, sometimes there is just too much damage to the tube and the operation can cause more scar tissue and your in a really high risk of having an ectopic. Still personally if insurance was paying for it, I would give it ago.

Wishing you all the best hun :hugs:

Hi,

I was given similar options. I don't know if my tubes are blocked as they haven't been checked yet but I certainly know that I have problems as my ovaries are not where they should be, and they therefore assume that my tubes aren't quite right either.

My consultant also told me a could have a 'lap & zap' as they called it, or IVF. Personally I choose IVF as we have been trying for 2 and a half years now and we didn't want to wait any longer. If I'm going to go through a procedure, personally I want to have the one with the highest success rate. That's just me though.

I'd be interested to hear what you decide x

The choice is up to you. But i personally would maybe start with the lap and then have ivf. I assume that you can have both done if the lap dont work? That way at least you are trying to fix the problem. If the lap dont work then go through IVf. I almost had to go with IVF and i read up on it and the sucsess rate even with everything else good is still low at like 40%. So this should be your last resort. If you do go down the ivf route then look into accupunture. I also did this and found that it increses the sucsess rate slightly and relaxs you as well. obviously get a 2nd opinion on that.

Lastly i was told a year ago in novmenber after a lap that my tubes where blocked. They where blocked at the top and bottom and i also had pcos. I was told that i stood a good chance with ivf as well. I was gutted like you as well. I went on the waiting list that i should of started last month and im now 31 weeks pregnant. i conceived naturally. I dont no how but im guessing that one of my tubes where not as damaged as they thought or the dye from the lap opened them up again. Who no's.

Just no that you have hope

Thanks girls! What do i got to lose now? Either way it goes I may or may not have success. I will talk with my FS then make my final decision. I appreciate this forum because without the help of you girls I'd be lost. It's great to talk to women going through the same situations. I just hope that this journey will come to an end with a BFP!! I wish I could see my future...will I ever hold my own baby in my arms?? I want to be able to give my love a beautiful baby!! I pray and pray that my dream will come true!!

Wow!! Thats a great story! Hopeful that i could be that lucky. Was your doc unable to remove the scar tissue? My left tube is blocked at the bottom and my right tube at the top.

I dont know much about accupunture but since I've heard alot of women having some success I may check it out. I will try anything for a BFP!

Hi Sweetie, In my own personal opinion I would go with IVF. If blocked tubes are your only issue, your success rate for IVF will be much higher, as the average % (which is around 40-60 depending on the clinic) is a rounded average from all types of fertility issues, so if you just take the success for those with blocked tubes, you'll find it's more likely way higher, around 80 or so percent. I have blocked tubes, and PCOS (mild though) and I was successful 1st time with IVF.

The risks involved with a Lap (which I already had done previously) is that in clearing the tubes, is it can cause more scar tissue in the process. And again, the risk of Eptopic is higher. Also, my Gyno told me, my tubes would likely block up again in about 6 months time - so if I was not successful in falling pregnant by then i would need another lap....

It's a very personal choice, and I would get as much info as you can before making a decision =)

Wishing you lots of luck.

Hi there. The choice is up to you. But let me tell you my story. I had blocked tubes, so I went for a lap and dye (free with medical) and they were able to unblock a tube. 3 Days after my lap, they put me on Clomid and the triggers and then.. a bfp! Sadly, I lost my miracle. But it is possible. My tube blocked up again and now I am doing IVF as my tubes are far too damaged now.

So that is the thing, if you do the lap, this may be the only time you can do it. And you have the possibility your tubes will close before you have the chance to get pregnant. There are no garentees with a lap. But the cost of IVF is rather high. I would do a pros and cons list and talk to your DH and FS to see how they feel about it. Hope it all works out for you hun! :hugs:
