At would age do you think it becomes clear that your child is left handed

Fynn is left handed and its always been clear - if you handed him something when they first start to take things he would take it with his left hand. He would pass things from right to left etc etc

Although you arent 'supposed' to tell until they are two - but my boys dont do what they are supposed to!

Rhys uses both hands but my mil is convinced he is left handed

hmm not a clue about that one - Sam has always been obviously right handed and Fynn left xxxx

I read that happens with twins it's like they are a mirror image it's very cute

I'm not sure. My LO used his left hand a lot for grabbing things when he was a baby but now he's fairly 50/50. I'd love it if he is left handed because I am but it's not really something I can control!

I asked my Dr as it has been very clear from early on that Zander is left handed and he said its is possible to know past about 18 months because babies can go through phases of prefering one hand then change to the other but Zander still and has always prefered his left...he colors, eats, everything left handed so Im sure about it now! I have thought Zander was since about 8-9 months :)

No idea! Bun does big things with his right like grab stuff and eat, but he does everything that requires fine motor skill (using a pen, winding a toy, threading his shoe laces etc) with his left. So I have no clue! x

Both me and DH are lefties - wonder if LO will be too?

I have heard that they are pretty ambidextrius (sp?) up to about age 3 and then they start showing a clear preference. Of course this is just average, some you can tell earlier and others later.

Both my husband and I are right handed, our eldest son is left handed and our youngest who is almost 4 pretty much uses his right hand, he still changes between the 2 when he is colouring but I have been told that is pretty normal at this age :)

I'm a leftie, OH is a Rightie! I hope Tom will be leftie like me!! :o) He's definately showing signs, he does most things with his left hand but he kicks with his right foot. It is possile to be one of the other so we'll see!

I would say definietly around 3 years old. even at that age in pre-schools.. we have to use the term 'shows prefrence to x hand'.

As not until school age 4 should they be classed Left or Right handed. x

callum has clearly favoured his left hand from about a year old, he always colours with that hand and eats with it.

emily uses both to eat, draw etc she favours her
left but she'll chop and change all the time

it's normal for kids to use both, they don't need to
start writing until primary school so they've got plenty
of time to pick their favourite :haha:

i write with my right hand but eat with my left
so if she's like me she'll find uses for both

Me and my brother both do that too

Liv's always favored her left hand. When she colours she will only use her left hand. We tried to put the crayon in her right hand to see if she'd do it, but she just drops it and picks it up with her left. :dohh:

I'm ambidextrous. It would be cool if she was as well, cause it does freak people out when I switch from my right to left hand while writing. Although I prefer my right while writing because it's the one I used most in school. But when I played softball I'd bat lefty. I rode skateboards goofy, and when I play guitar or violin I play lefty. I prefer my left for pretty much everything except writing.

They do say that you can tell from around 2. DD2 prefered to use mainly her left hand from around 18 months and by 2 we was pretty sure that she was going to be left handed. Shes now 3 and a 1/2 and is defiently left handed, she doesnt use her right for anything. :)

My daughter Madeleine still uses both hands and she is 4 and a half and has just started school.
