lesbian mums

Good Luck.

My Sister in Law and her OH are looking into adoption as they thought about having one through a donor but thought there were too many other kids needing mummies!

Good on em!

I wish more of us could think like that!

Its a nice way to think, but unless you're loaded, the adoption process is approx a 5-7 year wait...its amazing for all the unwanted children out there that it takes so long, doesn't really make sense does it?

Best of luck on your journey Hikax! There are a few of us doing IVF now and in the future so you will get plenty of support from us along with other members!

Hi there!,

lots of luck to you and your OH with getting your BFP! Don't know a great deal about IVF, except brace yourself for twins or triplets! Some friends were lucky enough to fall pregnant with their little girl with 'donor sperm', although it took 5 cycles/attempts (is that what is classed as IUI?).

Actually, there is a big misconception about IVF and multiples. Its more common than other countries, but in Australia, you generally have to have 3 failed attempts before they will put 2 back, and it is illegal to have anymore than 2 embryos put back. I also think that anyone who is a long time TTC'er would welcome multiples with open arms!

As for donor sperm, it can be done with IUI, but IVF and even ICSI can be used. I know that my clinic does IVF with donor sperm, even if the sperm is healthy.

I don't have any experience but I wanted to wish you both luck and the strength to deal with prejudice. I understand about people's ignorance and prejudice and how much it can upset and hurt, granted it's a different situation, but I still understand.

There is a very informative weblog (or, series of weblogs) written by a couple who have conceived a daughter through sperm donation.

https://2-moms.blogspot.com/

I do not comment on the blog itself but I do enjoy reading about their little girl. She is beautiful. I am not sure about the names on the birth certificate but I did find their journey rather fascinating.

I think there are links to a lot of other blogs on that particular one, too. I am sure you can find out alot from them.

Oh my GOD - that has got to be one of the cutest little girls I've EVER seen - they take such beautiful photographs of her, I have read almost half the journal, it's very addictive!!!

Anyway, Just wanted to stop by and wish you luck in your journey and welcome you to BNB

Isn't she beautiful, Neyney? The photos are so lovely, aren't they? I just love to look at that site to watch the kid grow. She gets more beautiful as the days go by.

I stumbled across it because a friend of mine, a couple of years ago (we are no longer friends, alas) was in that situation and was telling me how bad it would be for a child to have two mothers.

That child looks happy, to me. And, her mothers look happy, too.

It is addictive, though. It seems they got pregnant either the first or second go of insemination. I only wish some of us were so lucky...

hello hikax!

We are a lesbian couple trying to conceive....at present we are on our second try (inseminated monday)....
we are using fresh sperm at present....would be nice to chat some more...
did you go straight to a clinci or did you try/consider home insemination first?

best wishes!

Hi hikax and hekate

We are also a lesbian couple on our first cycle TTC. We are doing home insems with a known donor who with his partner will be fathers to our little one/ones. So we're gonna be a 2 mum, 2 dad family :) Its been a long and emotional journey reaching this point but feels really right for us :)

hikax - Good luck with your IVF. Fingers crossed for you

Hekate - are you doing home insems?

hello makingafamily! yes we are home inseminating....
nice to see others in similar situation...
stay in touch!

I know what you mean about it being a long emotional journey...there are many difficult descions to make before you even get to the TTC part...

I had a peak on my CBFM today for the first time so the boys are coming round tonight for stirfry and insems lol

If you dont mind me asking, what role is your donor? Co-parentin, no contact?

we thought about this long and hard....I always wanted a donor who would be willing to be known to the child as I feel it may be important for their identity...but at the end of the day anything can happen...life has no guarantees...we found our donor on a FSDW and and met him a few times....he is just perfect and a lovely person...I have a picture of him and his own children and some personal information, but I do not know were he lives and I suppose he could just disappear....but he does not think this could happen and he is willing to be known to the child...I want him to be known as "the man who helped us" rather then a father figure....
I would have considered co-parenting, but only with somebody I know since forever and I would trust 100%....there was nobody suitable in my life....

good luck for tonight! hope you caught some strong little swimmers!

Hi, i am also a lesbian mum TTC #2! Although my partner left when i was pregnant with my son, i am continuing with my family alone :D

I, like Hekate, found my donor on FSDW, i was so lucky to find him, ive known him almost 2 yrs now as i got pregnant with my son in Jan 07 and he has met him a few times, he's very supportive but never pushes contact on me as we agreed no contact in the beginning, after getting to know him more though im happy for my little boy to see him now and again. He's now helping with my second and i couldnt be happier with my choice of donor! I feel i was very lucky to get such a lovely and genuine person to help make my family :)

Good Luck tonight makingafamily!

Hey ladies

Its lovely to hear such positive stories from other lesbian mums. If our two best friends hadn't agreed, there is no one else we would have asked to co-parent as its a pretty big commitment?!?!

Insems went really well last night and as i got a peak we're doing it again tonight. Then i guess i will officially be on my first 2WW. Have made a decision NOT to early test. Hope i can stick to it

good luck! I think I will not test early again either....but then come day 8 post ovulation:rofl::rofl::rofl:

OMG I've already bought an early response test and i'm not even on the 2WW yet ARGHHH. I'm gonna drive myself nuts:headspin::headspin::headspin:

yeah know what you mean....and its not getting better!

you better get some internet cheapies in!

Good luck to all you guys. I hope you get your :bfp:s very soon.

:hugs:

good luck to you all...hope all goes well for you all.

This is such a lovely thread and I have just read through all the entries and can't bloomin' wait now for you to test. It's like watching a drama only to find when it ends the line "to be continued" appears at the end of the screen (that happened to me last Thursday by the way and I'm still miffed).

I do hope you get your BFP and thought I would leave a bit of :dust: now that I'm hooked. :flower:
