I tore pretty bad and had some very very sore grazes after giving birth to my son, Doc told the usual 'lean forward, sit in a bath, press a pad there, vaseline etc', which if you have had grazing you will know does nothing to help ease the pain of having a wee!
I was so scared of having a wee I ended up making myself ill by not weeing, it hurt me soo much, so this time round I have bought some Lidocaine Spray... has anyone else used it? and did it work? I think I might just buy another 1000 bottles and sit in a bath full of it for the first few days! :shower:

No one used this then? lol nevermind I will be guinea pig and try it out and let you all know how it goes! :)

I did! It took the edge off for sure, unfortunately its not a substitute for a good painkiller~

Oh I will be doping up on paracetamol and ibuprofen after the birth (if not BF) but I still don't think that's enough to stop the excruciating pain of grazes..... maybe I was really unlucky and just got pretty badly scraped up (TMI?) lol but going for a wee after having my son hurt so much more than actually having him.
The spray came today, and I have tested it on OH arms lol, but he said he couldn't feel anything.... (to which I said, well dur that is the point!) I will defo be trying it ( I will try anything at all to not go through that again) and I will let everyone know if it is worth having a bottle in your hospital bag!! :)
Hopefully I will have wasted my money and wont need stitches and have no grazes!!! :) I can only wish!

i think i will be going down the ice pack route this time round.
or the fridge cooler bags, gel packs or whatever they're called.
i have never heard of the stuff you were on about. where do you get and what does it actually do??
i heard that lavender oil in a bath is good stuff. might give that a go this time too. xx

Where did you get this from? I would be interested in trying it, although, does it sting spraying it on? I know it is VERY stingy when injected!
xxx

Fob is a research chemist and has tonnes of lidocaine that I'll try and steal if I have to! The only thing I would say about it is that it's not a highly efficient painkiller on surface wounds. It's worth a try though, eh?

I bought it from expresschemist online, it came to £7.45 with postage and was here in a couple of days, wasn't sure if it would arrive coz a few of the other sites say its prescription only, you have to fill out a form saying why you want it etc etc, :shhh: I just lied and said I had had it before for a previous birth...

Its sold as Xylocaine Spray, I found it on one of my late night google missions, I was trying to find 'Dermoplast' which is some american spray you can't get here (it's a numbing spray too)

Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic, like you'd get in an injection.. so this is a spray on topical version?

On the info leaflet it says it is for surgery of the mouth and nose and for dentistry and also for use after chilbirth where stitches are present.

I'm guessing it will probably sting a bit when first sprayed on to open wounds , .....but if it works then  mint, if not then :sad2: it was worth a shot lol

Xylocaine is excellent for after birth. I used it for after I had dd and within a week i was healed and felt alot better. But it sure makes normal chores a breeze! It does sting a little when first sprayed on but just lasts for a few seconds and then you feel like nothing happened down there lol. Deffo getting it again this time round!

tmi but im hoping no one will judge - lidocaine was what they gave me for when i had herpes and it was so so painful and itchy. i applied some and it went totally numb! i wouldnt be adverse to trying it at all but i dont have any! lol xxx

Hhhhmmmmm im interested in this very much as the way i 'grazed' with my son is what is scaring me the most about doing it again! I would shake and cry everytime i went for a wee! The only thing im worried about is i couldnt even touch the area (like open the lips! sorry!!) It would make me feel faint! So im not sure it would be worth it!

i used it after i had my first son, because i tore and had and episiotomy. it did help! but they told me it has a drying effect on the skin and not to use it too excessively. i guess that can make things worse so i couldnt use as much as i wanted. i wanted to soak in it like you said!
i found that it didnt sting like i thought it would, but it was very cold! thats a little bit of a shocker! haha its def is worth a try and it may take the edge off enough so you arent afraid to pee....
