Silly question - are you suppose to turn your tv off when its thundering & lightning outside?

I never have, but now i'm considering it..

only if your tv is hooked up directly to an aerial that hasnt got lightning protection-(or a plug that hasn't got it. otherwise you can keep it on.
I ahve got a sat dish and there is a tree in line of sight too so reception isnt great (good enough for a good picture) but as soon as there are thick thunder clouds or heavy rain the receptions gets lost anyway
