I got this yesterday as the nightfeeds were killing OH & I. I was a bit wary as we've been feeding him according to the hospital's instructions. However any mums I speak to have told me I would be crazy to continue doing this as its just too much work.

Sooo...tried it last night and it was ok. Only holds one of my TT bottles though so I have to store the other one in the fridge and go downstairs to get it, which defeats the purpose of the cooler really.

I'm still a bit scared about making up the bottles in advance tbh - do many other mums do this??

I make up enough bottles for the night in the evening and keep them in the fridge. OH and I are now a well oiled machine for night feeds. During the week (when OH has to get up and go to work next day) I hear her rustling for food, he goes down and warms the bottle whilst I get her changed. By the time she is changed he is back upstairs with a bottle. We do have a bottle warmer so i don't know if that is quicker than the jug of hot water method. I know it says not to make in advance but my sister's 3 kids all had milk made the same way (in advance in fridge for no longer than 24 hours) and they are all fine. the milk companies have just changed advice. But do what ever works for you - there are so many different methods that you could end up doing something different all the time!

I've never used anything like that, but I had a bottle warmer (tommee tippee) and found it really slow compared to just putting the bottle in a jug of hot water from the kettle to warm it up.

When I did night feeds I would take the bottles of water up ready, and have the powder box up there too. I had a bottle warmer in the nursery.
So when she woke I would add the powder and put it to warm, then start to change her bum, by the time I had put the clean nappy on the bottle was then ready to feed her!

Because it was just water in the bottles and I was warming it above the temp it needs to kill the bacteria it wasn't an issue with the water not being kept in the fridge.

She doesnt have night feeds now, but I still do this for the morning feed.

I have always made up enough bottles for 24 hours and kept them in the fridge. If they need warming they go in a jug of hot water, but Freya usually has them at room temp.

to start with i used to take bottles of water and the box of powder upstairs but then i started using those tommee tippee portioners (u could probably create ur own using sterilised small plastic tubs) i portion out each bottles formula then add it to the bottle when needed. Tis much quicker and easier than counting out scoops especially at night.

i pre fill bottles with water and serve at room temp too so no need for heating.

I have a kettle in my room haha just for the night feeds! I did have a TT bottle warmer thing but it took too long to heat up!

I bought a Lindam Day and Night System thinking that it would be a godsend but I've only used it on 2 nights and I think I'll probably donate to cooler to Hubby's fishing cause lol. I have a couple of criticisms:

1. It will only hold 1 wide neck bottle....it will hold 2 at a squeeze but it's just that, a squeeze. I did buy some of those plastic 'ice cubes' to place in there instead of using the provided ice pack, and this helped as you can then fit them in a little better.

2. It's Soooooooo easy to overheat the bottle when using it. You have to be right there to catch it at the right temperature, testing it all the time. With a screaming baby this is just not a good thing. I actually over-heated the bottle once and scalded Earl's mouth......so scary!!

Personally now I run a sink of hot water and place the bottle in there while I'm chaging his nappy on a night, or I will invest in a thermos type thing to do the same job.

I have also started to just mix the formula with room temperature water so that it takes less to heat the feed up and I don't have to worry. I keep a tin of formula in the nursery and take 3 bottles up on a night and it's always fine now! No problems to report!

I make bottles up in advance and keep in the fridge for during the day though and I've never had a problem with them either. I think as long as everything is sterile, you should be fine.

making up bottles in advance was totally normal when i had my first 2, the youngest being only 6 now!!!!!

i think the main issue to watch out for is cooling the ottles down and getting them in the fridge asap - i just made the bottles up and then threw them in a pot in the sink with cold tap running, less than 5 mins, cooled down enough to put in fridge :)

but, i never messed about at night time, i just took a caryon of ready made up when i went to bed lol

oh crap I don't get them in the fridge asap!

I thought it was best to let them cool normally and then put them in, instead of artificially cooling them quickly!?! Is that wrong? I just made up bottles too and put them in the fridge after they had cooled down - should I throw them out?

I am bfing Ozzie at the moment but I have the Lindam with my first two and found it ok. I had to cram 2 avent bottles in to get them to fit and occasionally the bottle overheated but apart from that it was fine.

The only other way I've ever done it was to prefill bottles with half of the water amount then bung in the fridge. Then when I needed them I'd put the other half in boiling, add the formula and it was done. That was the quickest way really but I'm too lazy to get out of bed in the night
