Just finished this quilt for the baby. Two months ago I couldn't even sew a button on, so am very proud of myself to get it finished! :happydance:

Just had to show it off :)

wow - you've done a great job, lovely to make something for your baby too

Wow! Thats so beautiful, I love your choice of fabrics too! I can appreciate how much time must have gone into this, and not an easy pattern for a first time quilter, I struggled with bloody squares!
Welldone you!

Amazing!! Can i ask how you made it?

Thank you :)

Well.. the patchwork was the hardest bit! I had two hexagon templates, one the size that I wanted the patches to be and one slightly larger, I cut all the hexagons out of fabric based on the larger template, and cut loads of bits of paper out the size of the smaller template. Then I placed a paper hexagon inside a large fabric hexagon and folded the edges over and pinned it (so the paper was inside). Once I had all my hexagons I laid them out on the floor and decided how I wanted to place them, numbered them all so I could remember the order and then handstitched them together (it took ages!). Once they were stitched together I took all the pins and paper out.

Then I used a sewing machine to stitch the fabric borders down the sides, and the corner squares. I measured a peice of fabric for the back and bought some wadding from a fabric shop (I bought special wadding that can be washed in a washing machine), and stitched it all together down 3 of the edges (but inside out). Once it was all stitched together I turned it back the right way round so all the stitches were on the inside, and then handstitched the bottom edge...

Hope that all makes sense - not sure I've explained it very well!!

(And needless to say I got a lot of help from my mum!!)

Wow that's ace! You could start selling them on ebay lol xx

Thank you!! I love all the fabrics too, we're currently on team yellow so it was quite hard choosing colours and patterns that would suit a boy or girl but I think (hope!) I managed to come up with something quite neutral!

thats beautiful hun!! wish i had the talent and patience to do something like that x

Well I wouldn't say it required much talent but it certainly needed a lot of patience!!

It was supposed to be my project for maternity leave but I ended up getting a bit obsessed with it and spent hours on it most evenings, so ended up getting it finished much earlier than expected. Will have to find something else to do on mat leave now!

Awww its fab!! Wish I'd learnt to do something like this, or knit!! Got 5weeks to go and I'm so bored I wana make something amazing!! x

Cheers :) I tried to learn to knit a few months ago - disaster!!

This was really time-consuming and cost me quite a lot of money from buying nice fabrics plus all the tools (I didn't even own any sewing needles when I started!) but was actually pretty easy to do once I got going... Defo worth all the effort, am well proud of myself!

Although I'm sure it will be covered in baby sick in no time..
