Ok,
So mr doctor referred me to something called 'maternal mental health' about 3 months ago- About 3 weeks ago I receieved the referal and was suposed to see some lady on April 23rd but I had to cancel.
I went to see a consultant on 23rd March who told me that after my first visit I wouldnt have to see her again because the issue originally was with my weight, and as I gained 9lbs in 3 weeks, she wasnt concerned anymore about low birth weight etc:
Well about 3 days later I got a letter from the hospital which said that this consultant wishes to see me again- on the friday when I went for the booking bloods I inquired about this letter and my midwife told me that the dr was concerned about my level of stress and anxiety and wants me to 'see someone' for the sake of my baby and basically my sanity.
My dr once mentioned something about a mother and baby until on a ward for mothers with postnatal depression etc: and they were talking to me asthough I already had it- Im kinda confused, does it sound to you as though dr's think i'm going to suffer from this? and has ANYONE been to see a maternal mental health counciller before?
I just dont want people to think Im batty.

Can't say i have!

Lucky for me i've always had the girls here and someone i can rant to whenever i need! ...

They might just have picked up how anxious you are about blood tests and stuff and just feel it might do you some good to talk through any issues you have before baby comes xxxx

Hi louise :hi:

after i gave birth to Adele the wanted me to go to the mother and baby ward because Adele was born at 29 weeks and i was in a state. I refussed as it was a chance to bond with your baby before going home but because i couldnt have adele with me i didnt see the point, i thoguht it would make me worse. After a long 12 weeks Adele came home and i was suffering really bad from PND i just feklt she wasnt mine because i couldnt bond with her from day one.

i was refferd to a PND specialis and a dietician as i was so skinny :dohh: i was then passed onto PND classes wich i felt a little un easy about as i didnt have much self confident and standing up with a group of people telling them how you feel about your baby ect i just couldnt do  i made myself go for 3 weeks 2 days each week but i just felt as though i wasnt getting any better, and the pills i was on made me cry if someone said hello to me

in the end i gave up the pills and gave up the classes and just sat and had very long convos with my OH he reassured me everything was ok and i was doing a great job, the more i heard this the better i felt within myself and 3 months later i felt great i was so in loce with adele and i just felt great about everything i done withher.

when i was pregnant with colby they said their was a very high chance i would suffer PND again but slightly worse off than the frst time so i had regular PND tests done while i was pregnant and not once did i score over 4 :happydance: and when Colby was born i didnt even have the slightest ickle that i was depressed i just felt great and bonded with her from the second she was born.

take it easy babe, dont stress yourself out wondering if you will have PND or not, having a baby is a big emotional thing for anyone its just sometimes some of us feel a little more down because of all the ormoans but it doesnt last forever and their is alot of help out their.

anytime you need a chat hun just pm me
were all here for each other on this forum

At the end of the day your GP only has your best interests in mind. Perhaps you should arrange to have more of a chat with him forst to understand why he feels you need this help, as it seems that at the mone toyur confussed as to what the problem is. Often we cant see the problems ourselves and it takes someone from the outside to see it, but I think certainly you need to understand what the concerns are and how you can perhaps help yourself.

I didn't go to a maternal mental health counsellor but when I had depression (not pnd) I saw a counsellor. THis was the most useful thing I have evr done. It got me out of my state without relying on anti-depressants. Sometimes you just need someone to listen to you and help you make sense of things without making judgements. If you have the opportunity to talk to someone please do!

Good luck Louise! x
