Hello,
I hope this is the right place for this short story! I will keep it brief but I struggled to find much success regarding low AMH when I was given the results that I had an undetectable level (UK level 1.9).
My husband and I had been trying for another baby for just under 18 months and we were sent for blood tests and scans after 12 months. Initial tests seemed fine but then I was offered an AMH test to test my ovarian reserves. I had it privately and expected it to come back fine but as I mentioned earlier it came back at UK level 1.9, which is classified as undetectable. The fertility clinic offered us am IVF consultation (again self funded) and we accepted. We spent an hour with a doctor I can only describe as an IVF salesman with comments such as "I wouldn't wait if I were you, I mean what if you wait and in a few years time you're kicking yourself because the chance had completely gone?" (I am only 35) and when I asked how accurate AMH was he told me that was irrelevant?!
Anyway, we decided we couldn't afford IVF and resigned ourselves to our family being complete as it was. In realoty however i think i saw it as a break from tryinh rather than the end of the road. I did however prior to attending the IVF appointment start taking COQ10 and having accupuncture once a week with fertility and relaxation in mind. Although I felt sad there was a real weight off my mind and I felt calmer than I had done over the previous year.
6 weeks later I got a positive test and I am now 14 weeks. Hopefully all will go well, who knows, it really is a waiting game. However I am so very glad I didn't pay attention to the doctor trying to push us into IVF right there and then.
Low AMH is not completely accurate, even when it is the results aren't always a useful indicator in someone with otherwise average results (other half did have low sperm count on one test too).
Hope this helps someone who has struggled with this situation x
