Low lying placenta

Rightly said. According to one textbook of obstetrics, which I consulted , nearly 30% of women have a low lying placenta at 20 weeks. But only 2% of women have low lying placenta at 36 weeks. therefore nearly 98% of cases of low lying placenta will be alright eventually.

Had the same at 20 week scan with my first. But by the later scan it had moved WAY up high and easy easy easy vaginal delivery for me! :happydance:

(If I get the same this time I will just choose to be excited that it means we get an extra scan later in pregnancy! :haha: )

Me too... Had a bad bleed and ended up in hospital before we found out though.
Ive been signed off work till it moves, told i might not go back!... Hoping it will move by next scan which is in a fortnight. Ended up with emergency section last time and was REALLY hoping for natural birth :(
...and im getting a bit, erm, 'fustrated'!!

I have placenta previa, my next scan isn't until November 10th to find out if I will have a scheduled csection. I was told to expect a csection in my case, mainly because I didn't have any movement of the placenta at both of my scans (complete previa). It'll be interesting to hear updates from your scans to see how your placenta is moving along. Good luck ladies, xx

I recently went back for a 28 week scan and my placenta hasn't moved (I just have partial placenta previa). The thing is, I have 2 placentas and it's the posterior one that is giving me trouble. They said it's more dangerous if it's on the posterior wall?

I have a low lying placenta also, seen at my 22 week scan. At 26 weeks it was still low but the doctor told me he isn't worried at all. I also saw his partner who said the same thing....that as the uterus grows the placenta moves. I think especially if it is low lying, and not covering, your chances are even less that it won't move. I asked what worse case scenio would be, and was told that if by chance it didn't move, I would need a c-section. Not my first choice, but not the end of the world either in my book. I know a c-section stinks, but a vaginal delivery doesn't quite seem like a walk in the park either lol. Try not to worry too much, chances are everything will be just fine!

Has anyones placenta moved up yet? I had a scan at 31 weeks and was told that although my posterior placenta has moved away from the os, it is still too close to attempt a vaginal delivery. I have another scan booked for 34 weeks where i'm hoping it'll have moved a little more! I'm keeping my legs crossed that the babies don't want to arrive before then!

Me too, mines low lying and just touching cervix so I have a scan booked for 34 weeks to check if it's moved. I had this with my first and it moved so I'm not worried

I had it with my son. NOthing to worry about. Only 1% don't move. ;)

I was on pelvic bedrest for 8 weeks and when they checked again i think around 26 or 30 weeks, it had moved up. :)

How far away was yours at the 31 week?

Mine was just 2.5cm at the 23 week ultrasound and my doctor seemed happy with that. I think I can have a vaginal delivery! :) I hope you have the same!

Hey hun, I haven't got this myself but 3 out of 4 of my pregnant friends had this. All had to be re-scanned at around 34-36 weeks. Out of the 3 that had it, the placentas had moved for 2 of them and just one of them had to have a c section as it hadn't moved up.

From what I've heard it's really common and in the vast majority of cases it will move up.

Don't worry at all, I'm sure all will be just fine!

X

Its normal to be scared but I found that the more I read about it the more I found that they tend to migrate up as your uterus gets bigger. There's not a lot of room in there right now so it's more common for placenta to be low lying a 13 weeks. Follow your doctors bedrest orders for the bleeding and as your pregnancy progresses they will rescan you and hopefully it will move up.

Mine was a complete previa at 17 weeks.... Partial previa at 18 1/2 weeks, and 2.5cm away at 23 weeks. If I had had a scan at 13 weeks like you it would have shown complete previa as well. Best of luck to you!,

Update: mine has moved out of the way enough for a vaginal delivery!! I found out at 34 weeks.

I have complete placenta previa where placenta is also attached to the posterior wall.

My consultant did not sound hopeful of any movement in my case. Told no penetrative sex no heavy lifting etc.

Am booked for C Section anyway due to medical issues, its just the potential bleeding and baby needing to be delivered by Emergency rather than planned that is worrying me.

Its a bit gutting when I am getting married next week. Consultant appears to be letting me fly for wedding as I get back just before I am 24 weeks.

Oooh I wish you a wonderful wedding and honeymoon. Try to enjoy! We are lucky we live in a time with all the medical intervention needed to keep you and LO safe and healthy... You're in my thoughts. Have you had any bleeding? Some women even with previa don't have bleeding and carry up to term and gave a c section around 37 weeks! Keep thinking positive :)

I have Anterior Placenta Previa. Hoping it moves before birth.

Mine was low lying anterior about 4 weeks ago. Due for my '20w' scan in another 3w. Will see then. :) I also googled too much on being told. Lol.

Best of luck to you all :)

Thank you, nope no bleeding, was put straight onto no sex after seeing position of placenta on scan. Your many women do make it to 36-37 weeks, its just the constant will I, won't I.

If I feel the slightest bit of cm, I am worried its blood, so keep checking.

Am breaking it down, firstly want to get to 24 weeks, then 28 weeks, then 34 weeks. Else I think I might drive myself crazy.
