Hi ladies,

I took my daughter (almost 29 weeks old) for her monthly weigh in yesterday and I'm feeling concerned, despite reassurance from the HV and nurse at the clinic.

Last weigh in Maia weighed 19 Ib 14 and was 69cm long. Yesterday she weighed 20Ib 2 1/2 and measured 71cm long.

Although she has grown 2 cm longer her weight gain seems tiny. She is drinking between 20 and 24 oz milk feeds per day and has 3 meals of solids. She is more active than before and constantly tries to pull herself up on her feet.

The HV said her weight is still between the 91st and 98th centiles and is pleased with her eating so not to worry. She said that weight gain does slow down as babies get more active but I can't get it out of my head that there may be something wrong.

I guess I'm just looking for reassurance that everything is ok. I'm used to rapid growth and big weight gains and I've not worried about weight since she was a newborn (literally) and I was having problems BF x

Ruby was the same, rapid weight gain until 6 months then it just stalled for quite a few months. I think she only started gaining again, albeit slowly, at a year actually. She was on the 99.6th centile at 5 months but by a year was down to the 75th.

Like yours, she is a perfectly healthy child so no need to worry at all!

my lo has just started to slow down she was putting 2lb a month on but not as much now . it is because shes dropped 3 bottles and is going 10 h at night and being more active . i lookes at my first childs yellow book and she was the same so im not worried , its normal hun x

Its completely normal for babies to slow down weight gain after 6 months (even 3-4 in some cases); on the new growth charts the expected weight gain to stay on whichever centile after six months is 1.75 to 3oz a week; if babies gained rapidly in the first six months the drop in the rate of weight gain can be even more dramatic xx

Last month Jaiden put on 9oz in a month, hes just a little older than ur LO. he doesnt move about yet or anything. and my HV said it was fone. hes on the 9th centile. i worry so much bout his weight gain.

but yea i think its fine hun :hugs:

yep, sounds fine! Particularly if BFing, they sort of self-regulate. Lots of babies build up a fat reserve and get nice and chunky, then when they start moving around more/crawling they slim down to skinny little things.

My LO was born on the 50th percentile and recently has started following the 25th. Her weight gain is steady, albeit slow, I wouldn't worry if she is gaining still. And like you said she is more active so is probably evening out in places that didn't have the chance before? my LO barely puts on a pound every 4 weeks, she has only put on 4lbs, 12oz since birth and is nearly 4 months.. every baby is different xx

Thank you for your reassurance ladies, I'll sleep better tonight :hugs:X
