I avoided lunch and deli meats for the first 20 weeks of my pregnancy just because I heard they were unsafe and didn't want to take the risk of catching anything potentially harmful to baby.
After 20 weeks I decided that i'd pop the meat in to the microwave and just heat it up for 30 secs to a minute so that it was really hot. I figured that it'd kill any bacteria that was living on the meat
so now I just microwave any cold meat/deli meats that I might want to eat. I'm sure the same thing would be fine with people in earlier stages of pregnancy.
