Hi, basically just trying to work out finances for the next few months and had a question.
My contract at work ends in September (had a feeling they weren't going to extend again after announcing pregnancy), I will be 17 weeks gone by then and can't start claiming Maternity allowance until 29 weeks pregnant. I am planning on signing on for job seekers allowance (should be income based as the years it goes of I was mainly a student). Now ideally I would like to find a job for this period as JSA is not much and id be bored! However I am not optimistic about someone hiring me for all of 12 weeks.
My question is then regarding the sure start maternity grant, as it says on website you can claim this if your on JSA 11 weeks before baby is due. If worst case scenario I don't get a job and stay on JSA will I qualify for this? Or because maternity allowance will replace JSA at 29 weeks (11 weeks before baby due) will this void the entitlement.
Would appreciate a response from someone who has been in the same situation, thanks.
