hi,
last year i came across a thread on money saving site about magical elfs that came to stay. its an american tradition but i took it on and my kids loved it.
you get a "toy" elf and it gets upto mischief at night/whilst the kids are at school etc.
i told my boys that santa let some of his elves leave the workshop and go and stay with families BUT he elf would make notes and report back to santa etc. he arrived on dec 1st with his "sleepig bag", notebook, passport and their advent calenders. there was also a letter from santa explaininghow to look after the elf.
every day he would write in his journal about what had gone on/what he did etc. and would be found in many different places.
1 night he had a party with a few toys from upstairs, there were party poppers across floor, empty plastic drinks cups, a pile of cds etc. he was found in the ffreezer, in OH car with macdonalds wrappers around him and all sorts.
OH set him up his own website as well. the kids thought it was really great and have already asked if the elf is coming back this year.
you can find loads of info on google, the disney site (not sure which part) and many other sites. might be a nice tradition to start and carry on for your LO's.
