just a quick question cause im sure its prob normal but just want to put my mind more at rest iukwim..

i lost my little boy due to sudden onset of ectreme pre-eclampsia which lead to a complete abruption, the only sign i had of pe which i didnt realise was swelling in my legs feet etc, obviously im preg again and i want to know can everyone push dents in there legs if they press down ? as this was a hugh thing that happened last time so just want to know how normal it is as i know we get water retention as well.

sorry if this is a bit muddled

thanks in advance xx

I could last time I was pregnant, but not until about week 34 or so. I developed preeclampsia at week 39, though, so I can't say for sure that it wasn't related. Do you know how your blood pressure is doing? How long until your next appointment? If it were me in the situation, I'd be worried, too, and would most likely try to get seen sooner rather than later to make sure preecampsia isn't setting in again. Sorry if I'm no help at easing your fears. After having preeclampsia last time myself, I'm a bit paranoid about the whole thing happening this time, too. Best wishes, and I'm hoping that this is just the normal sort of water retention that happens most of the time!

cheers for replying hun, my bp was slightly higher than norm at booking in, but its been fine since, trouble is last time i had apsolutly no signs of pe, not in my urine or bp, i had swollen feet n that but i thought hay im pregnant what do u expect iukwim, and because i actually lost weight ( only put on baby stuff so never went over my origional weight ) i never looked very swollen elsewhere iukwim. so what worries me is that it happens again but once again doesnt get picked up :-(( ive got midwife appt n the 9th so will check with her again, i know im being paronoid but how can u not be u know !!
xx

I had bad swelling of my feet and ankles with all of my pregnancies. With the first, towards the end I couldn't even get my shoes on. I never did have PE, but the weight of the baby was pressing on the lymphnodes that move water back up my legs. With this one already I can push dents into my ankles and I have some swelling already too. I have very low bloodpressure so doubt its PE this time either. With your history of PE I think mentioning it at your next appointment would be a good idea, maybe that can monitor you a bit closer than they would normally. Good Luck :)

No, if you can make a dent it is NOT normal. I was told this when I was worried I had Pre-E (turned up I didnt have), that a good indicator is the dent test. Please let your Dr./Mw/whoever know asap so that you can be watched more closely. Have them pay special care to your urinalysis at each appt. and ASK if there is any amount of protein in it. Given your history, I know if you were in the US you would be "high risk", idk how it is classified overseas though... I wish you the best.

ty ladies, well i went to my mw appt and i did get a bit worked up so am hoping its just that but my bp is slightly high 130/92 so they are sending mw out to do home visit tomoz to check bp again and i have got another appt at mw clinic next friday to have another check, im trying to stay calm but i cant help feeling a bit scared iukwim but also if they do find stuff at least we know its there this time and it can be treated before my body makes another baby die :-(
i dont know what will be worse bp still higher or its all ok and im still sitting here feeling like im a ticking time bomb waiting for something to happen and not have a clue if it does. grrr !!

Hey hun, given your past I know it is going to be hard to try to stay calm, but ... please try :)
Just stay on top of your BP readings... if you've got a cuff of your own or can go to a store/pharmacy that has one, I would do that daily as well. Look into foods that can help lower BP as well.. I know they exist but can't off the top of my head think of any..
Keep us updated, and keep in mind that a BP of 140/90 or higher is the "danger zone".
:hugs:

hi, just letting u know that bp has gone back down Pheww !! the student that was with the mw thought she saw a trace in my urine but in the end they decided there wasnt !!
ankles have gone a bit puffy tonight and as usual i can still do dents but not anything i can do unless something proper shows up i spose, still got mw again on fri, so not long until i get checked again.

i know this is gonna sound silly but when ive had blood pressure checked before at the doctors like when im getting medication or something and not preg, even when im really stressed or agitated my bp never goes up, so i cant help but think that it couldnt have all been down to the fact i was a bit worked up iukwim (the raised bp) blahh god knows !!

Hi marnie, I am afraid I have no advice for you but just wanted to say that hpoe it all goes well for you. I am really pleased to hear your bp is back down again xx

What a stressful time. Hope your bp stabilizes real soon and that you get the best best care possible. Your little boy was so beautiful, by the way.

I had pre eclampsia and HELLP syndrome with my first and like you I never really had too high of a bp or protein until my liver started failing. Only symptom I had was extreme swellling, like 3 stone over 10 days. I did have on and off headaches and bp that would rise a bit then go down from around 28 weeks but nobody thought was anything to worry about.

I think if your making dents that stay for longer than 10 seconds then more should be done for you. Im really sorry that you are being left to worry about this. Do you see a consultant weekly for ultrasounds checking your placental bloodflow?

Your son is beautiful:hugs:

Hi hun I also had severe PE which resulted in my boys being born at 31 weeks. Like you I didn't have high blood pressure & the only symptoms I had were swelling (which I thought was a normal side effect of pregnancy), and a pain at the top of my bump. I also had 3+ protein in my urine but didn't show at my midwife appointment at 30 weeks but was there when I went to the docs feeling unwell at 31 + 1 so it was all pretty quick.

Have they given you sticks to test your urine at home & a blood pressure monitor so you can monitor yourself? I thought that would be a norm for anyone who had had severe PE in a previous pregnancy.

It must be nearly impossible but try not too worry too much, and keep an eye on all your symptoms - dizziness, swelling (particulary if it is your face/body), visual disturbance & a pain at the top of your bump. As I am sure you know high blood pressure is only one symptom of PE so keep an eye on everything together! Hope all goes well and you don't develop PE this time x

hi hun, im only seeing a consultant after my extra scans at 28.32 and 36 weeks which are just to check the baby, nothing about checking the placenta at all, do u think this is something i should ask about ?:hugs:

hi hun, thanks for ur reply, again they havent given me anything like that, i found that u can buy them on amazon, so i may have to get the test sticks in just to be on the safe side, i suppose i could go to the doctors surgery and use their electric bp machine on a regular basis, but i think tbh im gonna ask to have a mw appt every two weeks form now on, just to be on the safe side, im prob being to over the top but i just cant take that risk now i know how badly it can all go wrong :-( :hugs:
