Making your own advent calendar

Has anyone done this? I am seriously thinking about it for next year. I like to sew (if only I could figure out what is wrong with my sewing machine) so I was thinking I could make 2 for next year instead of buying the chocolate ones for Shawn and I. A friend of mine had one when I was over the other week and she was doing it up for her daughter with stuff from the dollarstore and from avon. It was very cute!! I looked it up online and it doesnt look like it would be too hard to make. I guess for those that arent that crafty you could buy the pre-made ones with the pockets in it (usually with something on a stick to put in the pocket)...I tried looking on ebay for them and there were a few cute ones. Has anyone (in canada) seen these pre-made ones...if so what stores? I have been racking my brain on where I could go. xx

Do you have any shops that are just open for Christmas? Every town I've live din has always had one and they always have stuff like this.

We bought Caitlin a wooden one with drawers to pop our own gifts in ...

That would be really cute!! Hmm Im not sure if there are or not. There are so many stores in this place I wouldnt even know about half of them!! Im still thinking about making my own, its just hard to buy the numbers to put on the pockets because they are so darn expensive but I think I found some on ebay, it maybe a summer project tho!! I got my little snowman advent calendar at wal-mart for $10!!
As to making your own you could always cut the numbers out of felt and glue those on. I know its time consuming but it would save you some $.. You could always be creative to and make an advent calendar with a gift in it for each day or a candy. I think I will be doing that for next christmas.

Saw several premade ones in Zellers,

PS here a lot of stores have their Xmas stuff on discount already, including Zellers, Lowes, and Canadian Tire!! By discount I mean up to 40/50% off!!

Thanks!! I checked Michaels the other day but I didnt find anything there! I thought out of all the places they would have something like that, but nope! I will check Zellers and canadian tire tomorrow!! Woohoo I love deals
