does anyone know if these remain sterile for a while after they've been microwaved? I'd like to take some bottles and formula with me to the hospital just in case, and was wondering if I could sterilize these before I leave and chuck them in my bag? I don't know if we'll have easy access to a microwave there. So if anyone knows how long they should stay sterile, that'd be awesome. Or even if you have a good alternative, I've heard you can buy pre-sterilized bottles, but I haven't found any yet (just bag-type things...they looked like they would be awkward to use...)

Any help is appreciated!! Thanks!

I'd check what the hospital provide. I know where I was there was no provision for microwaves and kettles (even the tea trolley was a flask of hot water topped up from the staffroom kettle whenever someone remembered to do it), the only sterilisers were the milton cold water type for those long-termers breastpumping who needed to sterlize their pump parts, and they provided the starter kit style bottles of formula with disposable teats to anyone FFing.

I gather they'd had a collossal fight with the hospital bods to secure being allowed to use a toaster for patients to make their own breakfasts (think they feared the hospital being burned down... although since fire alarms were generally a 2-3 times daily event anyway...), I think a microwave would have been a step too far for the hospital powers-that-be to cope with!

Hi, I use them but they're only sterile if you do them just before a feed. You can get starter kits with bottles of formula and teats to take or tommee tippee do disposable bottles, you can get both in boots xx

the MAM bottles only stay sterile for 12 hours once sterilised and assembled. I took one with me to hospital with the leaflet on how to do it and asked to use the microwave in the staff room. As it was they had the glass bottles so I used them instead.

You used to be able to buy pre-sterilised disposible bottles - in fact - linky

thanks! that's the kind I was looking for!! For some reason I could only find ones where the bottle part is a bag, so it would be soft and squishy...which I think would make it awkward to use.
